Subject: Looking for a coat/outfit

Hellwolve ( ) posted Sun, 05 December 2004 at 7:13 AM · edited Sun, 12 January 2025 at 8:17 PM

I'm looking for a Poser coat/outfit. I don't know much of it, but I hope that what I do know of it will suffice: 1. It is, or was, a Renderosity newsletter freebie 2. The main color is blue 3. It's old fashined, e.g. not an modern trench coat 4. It's, IIRC, naval themed, akin to pirate's clothing. Thanks in advance for any help I might recieve :-)

For which figure? Do you need a pirate outfit, a period outfit (Dickens, Victorian, 18thc), a naval captain outfit... what? We might not be able to help with that newlettter item (not even free items can be redistributed without permission), but if we know what you need, we should be able to point you in the right direction. Well, I'd like to have a coat for M3. Said coat would, ideally, look a bit like the coat this guy is wearing:

A short long coat, if that makes sence ;-) And that freebie prolly contains what I want to have...but some other freebie would be cool as well :-)

Do you mean by any chance that Uzilite/Wusamah freebie "Dr. Strange" that came with the newsletter a while back? But I don't think that one has a coat as depicted above...in fact I can't even remember a newsletter freebie with a coat...;-)

Hellwolve ( ) posted Sun, 05 December 2004 at 12:36 PM

Well, could be...I don't know what it looks like from the top of my head, so... And, no, the coat described doesn't come close to the coat in the pic, but IS rather close.

The only one I can think of is that Uzilite freebie from the past or past past newsletter...I'd have to check to see if I can distribute it before I shovel it over to ya :-)

Well, okay...thanks in advance. Or not ;-)

That has rather a Russian look to it. If you can find a Russian long coat, you can make a transmap to get the V effect on the hemline, and add the wrist strips on the texture map. The furry stuff on the shoulders is trickier. I think Brycetech's feather/fur boa wrapped up neatly (or scaled to shorten it) might work if draped and then locked into place. The thing over the mouth is specialized... and you'll probably end up building it (a few primitives and a magnet to curve it). I understand that it is the "style", but guys look really stupid with their heads tucked into their chests. It is defensive, and not very heroic at all. I like my heroes tall and lean. ;) Carolly

I like my heroes short and brooding ;-) All kidding aside, all links, hints and such were and are apriciated. If I find something, I'll post it here, just to be sure :-)

Just found the freebie and checked, redistribution is not allowed as per the license, sorry!

Thanks for the info, BrokenAngel9. Can you tell me the file name, then? Perhaps I have it on my HD, and just plain forgot :-)

Napolean was short and brooding... and that didn't stop him from taking over much of Europe. 🤷 With the right file name, the disk-searching utilities will have a much easier time of retrieving the file. I rename everything on download just because the makers usually don't give very descriptive names... and I got tired of "book_01" overwriting other "book_01"s. By adding the maker's name and what the file IS, I have a much better chance of finding it later. Carolly

BrokenAngel9 ( ) posted Tue, 07 December 2004 at 1:40 AM

Carolly, this one had the maker's name on it, so it was easy to find. But I sort of stopped to rename my files after I figgered out the system I used was lending to confusion later on ;)

Hellwolve ( ) posted Tue, 07 December 2004 at 11:41 AM

Good point, hauksdottir ;) At any rate, this has tought me I need a better system for my files...gotta think that one through.

Some of the info in this thread might help you with organization as well as naming. :)

Hey, thanks for the link! I've had a quick glance, and it seems really helpfull. I'll be sure to give it a good read soon. Perhaps there's still hope for my 700+ freebies ;-)

Remember that ANY organization helps! It doesn't matter what system you use as long as YOU can find the item later. And, once organized, it is easy to change the categories as your needs change. Carolly

BrokenAngel9 ( ) posted Thu, 09 December 2004 at 1:14 AM

I've started to at least sort the freebies into categories by now...about 2750 or more files...speak of a lot of stuff L

@ hauksdottir: I'll remember that. Believe it or not, normally very organized...It's just that I with all those freebies, I got in a download craze ;-)

@ BrokenAngel9: Heh, and I thought I had a lot of stuff...

Hellwolve: And I haven't even eliminated all the doubles and triples yet, either...not to mention that with all the christmas give-aways going on, new freebies coming out each day, the amount of files grows steadily...
