Subject: Getting hair to look good in Bryce

rickprice407 ( ) posted Wed, 08 December 2004 at 10:55 AM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 3:21 AM

I can get my models to look good in poser but when I have converted them to an obj and put them into Bryce the hair is now solid pieces. What can I do about this?

There's a utility in Freestuff called 'grouper', that will arrange the model more easily than the 'click+control, texture R_Collar_green_1 kinda stuff that I do..;)
There's a few hair mats out there, Lunariad.com has one, Jelissa at (uh, I'm at work, don't have it on me) has some hair mats as well..but if you can keep track of where your textures are, usually if you export as obj, it will ask for the textures for individual pieces..and you point to the relevant directories..
failing that, you can always render the background in Bryce, and then import the picture as a background..I've done that on several occasions..;) hope this helps.

If you have the free Daz Studio and have bought the turbo plug in for bryce you just save your figure as a pz3 and import it into Daz Studio and then export it back out as a Bryce obj it will then bring it all into Bryce with transparency's included saves a lot of steps if you don't have that you have to select the hair and go into the editor and bring in the transparency maps and apply. SndCastle, that's the part I've forgotten how to do in Bryce 4 (don't hav 5 installed on the laptop). I once knew how to get the transparency map into Bryce, now I've forgotten how to do it. Could you explain, please? Liz

to load a transparancy in Bryce you click on the hair, you should have the texture map intact, then you click on the transparant button thinger, column b, hit the "p" on the texture that pops up and then load the transparancy map, copy it to the second node and hit okay, back in the main windo you go to the little triangle on the right and pull it down until it is on "blend transparancy" .. do that and you should be set. I did it without Bryce in front of me so it might be a little off but that is the gist.

Look at the thread eight down from this and you will find the answer.

You also have to flip the transmap upside down with a program like Photoshop. Just rotating won't work.

I have never had to flip a transmap ...

My mistake. It's Vue that used the transmaps upside down. And I guess you don't have to use Photoshop to flip them either. You can just enter -1 for the Y value (I think it was the Y value.)
