Subject: Scenics on Poser 5

Well, in my very begining experience with Poser 5 and help from this forum I am trying to learn how do scenics. Import background pic is ok, put the first character, work on it.. etc everything go ok. The things become to be hard when I want add another character or props or whatever. First, when I am working on first character, I have to move it on screen so it will be positioned in the place I want on back pict. I found Poser 5 looks work a bit distint from Bryce 5, where you can place objects as you want, whitout interference between them. I mean, on poser when I try add another object or character, dont matter what is, it go to same "plane" the first object was positioned and if I try moved it the fisrt object go together. So, I am not sure if I am doing things right or I am missing something. In fact what I wanted is put things at their positions, these ones I want. I tried out one by one and each time I finish one, I save as *jpg and import it as back pict but I am sure have some way easier to put objects. Any help should be very appreciated.:-) Thank you very much in advance, aniela

Ok, I think I get the drift of what you're saying and as there's no replies I'll say what I think you're asking. Characters and some props will come in to the poser window in the same position. Smart props however will go to the part of the figure that they're smart propped to! The trick with multiple characters, props etc. is to use the little tabs at the bottom left of the small poser window. Select what figure you want to move there, say figure 1 and then make sure you have the body selected on the other tab. then use the "parameter dials" from the drop down menu on the top menu bar to move that figure and position it etc. You can also use direct manipulation but if you're a beginner and I don't know if you are, then you'd be better off using the parameter dials. Hope this helps but I'm not sure if I've got what you're asking right.

Hi, Yes, I am a beginner.:-) I will say exactly what I am trying to do. I made a undersea background on Bryce 5 and I import it to Poser 5. The first character I added was a mermaid (pose, hair, textures, etc). To put her at her position I used camera controls and also dials for Figure 1 in this case. Then I added another figure: a fish and when I try move it, Figure 1 go together. The same happens if I add a plant prop or whatever I want. I cannot move only one over scene: ALL go together, even I choosing Figure 1, Figure 2 or the prop. What I noticed is everything go to same plane where is Figure 1 (that white square under Figure). I dont know its a Poser limitation and I have to add one by one, render, save as *jpg and import each time or I am doing something wrong. Or, if have another way to build my scenic. aniela

Ok, I'm not entirely sure of what is going on here. If you're selecting the fish then it should move by itself using the parameter dials. If the mermaid moves at the same time as you're moving the fish (which is what I think you're saying) then that would suggest that the mermaid is parented to the fish somehow. If you check that out and then try parenting the fish to "universe" and see if that sorts it. If it's not a parenting issue then I'm a bit stumped as to why it should do what you're saying.

First at all, thank you very much for your reply.:-)
As a good beginner I still dont know when and how use parent tree (manual is not clear for me), but I tried do something. I choose the fish and went to Figure>Set Figure Parent: everything have - before, except cameras/lights. I clicked on Universe but dont changed nothing (maybe is not the right way to do it). I did the same for my mermaid.
Anyway, I think I found what I am doing wrong: I was trying move only one figure trought trackball (as I do on Bryce5 to move objects) and then everything go together on scene. But, when using dials it works.:-))
I am really convinced that I cannot apply on Poser 5 what I do on Bryce, at least trackball have another concept behind it.
Thank a lot! As I said, still beginner, but everybody were too once.:-)
best regards,
aniela

Firstly, you're right there is nothing wrong with being a beginner as you have said we all were once. If I gave the impression that being a beginner was somehow bad then you have my apology. I was just trying to gauge your level of knowledge. There's nothing worse than someone talking to you like you don't know anything if you do! I don't know about how you use Bryce, I've never used it so I can't help on that. I hope it all works out for you!

You were just nice! Please, you dont have to apologise. Not at all.:-) I dont feel bad to be a beginner and yes, I know you have to know my level of knowledge. I only have to say thank you!! aniela
