Subject: smart props

Felber ( ) posted Wed, 30 July 2003 at 7:23 AM · edited Sun, 05 January 2025 at 7:52 PM

I'm sorry - I'm sure this has been explained before, and maybe I'm just overlooking something - but it just occured to me that I can't figure out, how to save props as smart props in poser 4 (let's say I have a bottle object and want to save it in my props library in order that it will automatically adjust and be parented to a posette-character's hand when loaded). I'm also unable to find a tutorial about this issue. Can anyone help me?

  1. position the bottle where you want it to be 2) parent the bottle to the hand 3) save it back to your library (with a different name if you don't want it to replace the original) When Poser asks if you want to save as a smart prop chack "yes"

ah. thanks. I was overlooking something after all...

Felber, one other thought, you may want to also save the hand pose to the appropriate library. It will save you a lot of time if you ever need it again.

One more thing: If you have more than one prop in your scene, be SURE to select the one you want to be "smart" before you save it to the library, or it will most likely save ALL the props in the scene :o) If you use the "select subset" option, the prop will NOT be smartpropped.

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

One more thing (lol). If you want to unparent a smart-prop, use properties and select 'Universe' as the parent. It will now be 'dumb' again. mac

Re: Pose #5. If you don't use select subset it will NOT save all the props, just the currently selected one. As ernyoka1 said 'If you use the "select subset" option, the prop will NOT be smartpropped', but there is a workround if you need to use select subset to save a group of props. After saving the props using "select subset", open the pp2 in a text editor and do a global search and replace of "parent" with "smartparent".
