I have noticed that some other Art Sites have a Ignore option where one can ignore any member that may be causing grief or harassment, backslapping or what ever. Perhaps it would be of use here at Renderosity? Thanks Buzzzzz

if it's asked for enough times it might appear. even on sites with it, I personally never use it. so it's not something I care about.

In my opinion the ignore-option slows the system down, as for every thumbnail there must first be a crosscheck if I am allowed to see it. Guess that this is the reason for astSIGs and photoSIGs slow servers Volker Harun

I dont think it would slow the site down any further than the 'delete' or 'reply' feature..

To address the original post - As I understand it, if there are any comments made that violate the TOS (personal attacks etc) all one has to do it IM a mod/admin and they will remove it if it is offensive. :> cara

True, but then some members have problems 'all the time' with other members. Some would just rather not see the provoking posts, and therefore it would get rid of alot of the flamefests around here that end up in locked threads and warned/banned members.

True, I've even suggested it once myself, a while ago. Sometimes it's easier to get along with someone when you can't read what they have to say :) I would rather we as members were given the option to select who we want or don't want to see on the forums, than for the moderators to practice wide-spread censorship or suppression of expression. This may be a privately owned forum, but I think it's sad that it's become an acceptable thing to request they delete posts left and right, just because someone's sensibilities have been offended. There are cases where it's warranted (racial slurs, hate speech, etc.) but just because someone disagrees with your opinion should not be one of them. Even when I make some really harsh posts I regret later, I choose not to go back and delete what I posted, simply because I believe I should take the consequences that result from whatever I post. If I'm willing to take responsibility for what I say, why should the moderators have the power to take that choice away from me? I would think an ignore feature would cut down on their workload tremendously as well. Instead of people running to mods on a constant basis to have posts deleted, they can just tick a checkbox themselves and be done with it. But if I remember from when I suggested it, it was something to do with the message system software they chose, and how an ignore feature could not be implemented with it.

Ah.... gotcha. :) After two years, they haven't, um, nagged someone into adding this type of thing? Heh heh.

hmm, lets see.. company a, with offshoot b, from tennessee, being bought up by conglomerate cdef from new york... might have a lack of comprehention between new owners and existing managment. after all new yorkers are right screwed. ;)

Hmmm...not sure but I would think it would be just for the forums..as 'Rosity already has a basic 'ignore' feature for the galleries..the nudity/violence filters..

@jumpstartme2: If you click the 'Members'-link on the side-menu, you will notice how long it takes to read the database. So for every thumbnail of each artist this list must be loaded and checked if you or me are on the blacklist to view this or not. It makes me shiver ;-) Volker Harun

As far as I am concerned, RR can choose to institute an "ignore" feature -- or not. I'll never use it, anyway.

There's nothing that anyone can say that would make me want to hide from them.

Besides which: the admins around here have -- for the most part -- managed to reduce the yelling to a dull roar (usually).

The remaining "real" fights tend to be over copyright issues, the Hyped 20, and other such burning issues of our time.

As for the political, etc. type arguments......it's a proven fact that slapping someone (hard) is always the best way to convince them to accept your particular point of view.

Works every time.

One's battles should be chosen in places where they will actually do some good.

Unfortunately, many individuals are merely out to prove that they are the smartest person in the room.

Ignore away. Measure for measure, that's the value of the thing.

Hi Buzzzzz, I thought the ignore option was an interesting suggestion. I didn't know it had been brought up before either. Looks like we both received the answer on the "ignore" option at the same time. I wish I had an Ignore feature in real life...hey dougocd I think you could make LOTS of money if you could develop this as a real-life feature! Tilandra I wish everyone were as responsible, then there wouldn't be a need to monitor things the way we do. To the best of my knowledge the team is not in the habit of removing posts simply due to a disagreement of perspectives. It is when we enter the realm of TOS violations that posts get deleted. Xenophonz, I agree, and I never use scripted ignore features. if someone always seems to post what I think is ridiculous, I just don't read thier posts in detail. scan for gist just in case they make a good point, but not read completely.
