Well, I was supposed to go make pacman or space invaders for my flash design and object oriented programming classes at college, but I thought that was a little simple for an expensive college study because I could learn that for free by going to google.com. So I talked to the teachers and raised the level of difficulty a little by making my own project :) I am now making a 3D Navigated website! woohoo!! And guess what I'm using for the stills? ;) Good old faithfull Bryce 5 :D My teacher thought I was a lazy ass and thought I didn't know a thing and tried to make me use his favourite software packages (of which he was using illegal copies, which he tried to pass on to me also, shame on him) so I've decided to show him what I'm made of and kick his arrogant behind with some great graphics for my site to show him after the winter break :) And here's the first WIP's for all of you to enjoy if you wish to do so :) If you do not enjoy it, feel free to skip to the next or previous threads :P This first pic is a render of one level of a building I'm making :)

I have been working on making rooms, a hallway and an elevator also, which I am currently rendering at nice premium quality. Should be done in a few days :) Untill then here's a wireframe view of it to give you a bit of an idea :)

If there's enough time (mostly because the renders take so long), you could even bring in bitmap sequences into flash. That way you could have Bryce quality even when moving. (Well at least if it's a point A to point B type navigation.)

There might be something worth downloading.

Thats fantastic! You do a really fine job of structure layout design. I am speculating that you did the walls and stuff like that all in Bryce 5 correct? Great job at any rate. Please forward the web site URL when it is visitable.

I'd love to see a rendered version of the building with all the other details added (in the last two images). Really great modeling.

Hey, nice modeling, Ray, keep us posted, looking forward to see some final renders of this !!! :D

erosiaart ( ) posted Sun, 26 December 2004 at 2:45 AM

Ok..so now what has your teacher got to say to this? Sure bet it puts his work to shame. i like what you did.. want to seet he final render... what exactly are you into..and what are you doing modeling an office and how will you use it in your web desding thingummy?

I don't think there'll be enough time to bring bitmap sequenses into flash, but I'll have really cool 3D wireframe effects for the moving bits of the site :) I already programmed a physics engine that animates an exploding wireframe :) I bent the rules of physics though :P So now, for the sake of "artistic freedom", the gravity constant is no longer constant anymore LOL (actually it just looked better) I'm currently working on making a few buildings turn around in a circle and such. I'm still working on solving both paralax effect and perspective effects in there (objects further away look smaller then when you view them up-close), I can use them seperately but I will need to use some tricks to combine them I think. I'm keeping this thing as bandwidth friendly as I can so I'll only make the user download one png file of a glowing line, then I'll be using coding to build the entire wireframe from coordinates I stored in arrays and I'll use a custom programmed engine for each effect I need to generate. Almost all is modelled directly in bryce, I also used some furniture models I made in amapi a while ago. The brick walls were made out of 10 individual unique bricks, which I then placed randomly, to avoid the repetitive look that comes with tiling textures. I'll be showing a finished render shortly, hopefully before the end of the day :) I need to combine several renders to get the effect I'm after and since the phototextures are getting a little heavy on my pc's memory it's a bitch to render :P The building is indeed a bit like an office. Inside the building stories will be stored, people can upload new stories into the building as well as read stories that other people uploaded. Each room will contain one story :) I made the rooms look a little like offices, with desks and all so that they could be like, the writing room of the writer of the story that's in the room :) I thought that would fit in nicely with the purpose of the site :)

(of which he was using illegal copies, which he tried to pass on to me also, shame on him) Either he gives you an A+ or you report him.....?

well, since we all use illegally downloaded stuff at some time (almost all of us do anyways) I figure I won't be reporting him, I'm not nasty like that. However I do find that using illegal copies of software does show a lack of professional attitude, which is why I prefer to legally purchase my software these days :) Besides, there's more satisfaction in getting something if you've had to work for it :) I could care less if he gave me an A+ or a C lol, I'm doing this to learn, not to get a good grade. If I want to run my own webdesign company then I better develope some skills right? :)

I guess my teacher is one of those people that are impressed by big names rather then quality endresults... lol
