Subject: Undynamic clothing ('nother newbie question)

I'm trying to master first steps in making dynamic clothing props, which involves some basic edits of the built in props. I export as .lwo from Poser and load into Blender (because .obj files give me errors), do the edits, export as .obj, import into Poser, resize, place and clothify. That sequence has worked, but as I've got more ambitious, I've hit trouble. I have taken a long dress, attached a new top to it, and cut it down. After the last step, when I try to clothify, it simply floats there. No draping, no downward drift, nothing - it's a dress in zero g. Collision detection is on. I have tried exporting from Poser and re-importing. No dice. What have I not set up correctly?

The only thing that comes to mind is- are the top and bottom one complete group? Not just welded together?

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.
