Subject: Importing problem

I hope one of you nice people can help me with this problem.

After my girlfriend gave me a gift certificate from DAZ i went and picked out the models i wanted. After downloading one and loading it into DAZ Studio then exporting it to .obj
I tried to import it into bryce. When it reached 75-80% on the import meter i got an error message saying "Not enough memory"

Could someone please let me know why i get this or how to fix it cause i'm not going to be a very happy chappy if i can't use a model that my girlfriend spent $50AUD on.

Hmmmm... this is gonna sound like a silly question, but DO you have enough memory? I run 1 gig, but that's overkill. 512 is more than enough for most folks. How many polygons on the model you were trying to import? More polys=more memory needed. Was your scene already very complex? What do you have running in the background? Here's what I'd try: First off, reboot your system. Shut down any nonessential programs, then try importing your model again. If you have the same problem, maybe try exporting it out of D|S in a different format (3DS works well for me, though it usually means having to apply the textures manually) Hope this helps. :)

Jaymonjay, i have 512 mb ram, i have no idea how many polygons the model is because its a .exe file from DAZ and i hadn't tried to put it in a scene i was just trying to import it into bryce. I tried a reboot and i still got the same error. I'll give a reboot another go but this time i'll shut down all nonessential programs. Thanks Bryster, i'll remember to do some house keeping while i reboot ;)

I've got an athlon 2400 and 512 of memory. I still do fine. The only thing that seems to work on the rodluk castles is DAZ studio. I have poser 4 with pro pack as well. Just a dumb question but where did you get Bryce? If its one of the old Corel box sets you could need the update. Chances are if your Bryce comes in the box with the seacoast image and not the one with the round city that is currently on the DAZ website then you will need the 5.01 update. Corel dumped it off their FTP and DAZ doesn't have one up. If you need it I can email or temporarily file locker a copy you can download.

Look on this page and see if any of your Daz Products has been updated. An updated base for victoria 3 was just released. If the update is newer than your purchase it could fix your problem.

electroglyph, i have the DAZ and corel version of Bryce i also have the 5.01 update as well. The model i'm trying to install isn't one that needs V3 base it is a stand alone model. Jaymonjay in answer to your question earlier on the polygons, the model has just over 166 thousand polys.

hrm... could be it exported wrong from Studio. 166K polys is not that much.

I just exported Vicki 2 from poser and she had 54,656polys. 166,000 seems like plenty compared to that. I don't know what would be correct without knowing what model you got. There are some products like Milennium Dragon that were notoriously difficult to export. You could also have some degenerate faces caused by the actual posing itself. I've had trouble with Bryce when I accidently posed an arm inside a leg or the torso then tried to import it. Certain models don't like to be over torqued. Try tweaking the pose especially dials that are displaced above the 100s. Roll the shoulders some instead of putting all the displacement in the upper arm.

Jaymonjay i tried everything you said. finally got the model imported into bryce by converting the .obj file to .3ds. Here is a quick render of it for you to look at.

Sounds like you may have been able to fix the .obj with Grouper. The error message sounds odd given what you were trying to do. I have 512 but I can run Bryce, Poser and Photoshop all open without running out of memory on imports. Granted it slows render time to almost non-existant when I do that but....
