I recently received a copy of Poser 4 from a freind of mine. I have no idea what I am doing but am playing and trying to learn. I ask questions and everyone tells me to look in my book for the answers. The problem is that I don't have a book. Can someone please tell me if I can find an online copy of the book to print out. Help amd desperate to learn this stuff!!

geep ( ) posted Thu, 30 December 2004 at 1:38 PM

Um, get the "book" from your "friend," also?

Just a thought.

BTW - If you do not have a legal copy of Poser, you may not find very much here other than some grief.

Just some friendly advice from:
dr geep
;=|

Remember ... "With Poser, all things are possible, and poseable!"

cheers,

dr geep ... :o]

Until I see a good reason to think otherwise I'm going to assume that it's a legit CD that no longer has the book with it. If that is the case, there is a PDF of the book on the CD. Just so you'll know, in case I'm wrong, Renderosity maintains a zero-tolerance policy on Warez (pirated, illegal or other unauthorized copies of software).

It's a legal copy of the program. I asked him for the book but he moved recently and said it got lost in the move. Nothing I have is illegal. Everything here bought and paid for or someone else has bought it and got tired of it and gave to me.

OK, then welcome to Renderosity... People here are quite helpful. First thing I recommend is to click on the Poser Forum banner at the top of this page. That will take you to the Backroom. On the right is a menu that looks like the Library menu in Poser. Click on Tutorials, and you'll find everything you need to get started. I'd recommend trying geep's series of tutorials (yes, the same geep that greeted you earlier in the thread - don't worry about him, he's actually a nice guy when nobody's looking...) His tutorials are really good and are will show you the basics. Also, the PDF copy of the manual on the CD includes a tutorial, beginning in chapter 3 that takes you thru thye basics. (in the character creating part it will tell you to load a file called clown1; That is on the CD. For some reason the installer never copies that when it installs Poser, so you have to get it manually. But generally, the book is not much help. It explains how to operate the program and that's about it. The tutorials will teach you much more. And most important of all, post any questions you have in the Forum. People here are quite helpful. One important note: If you hear people referring to figures called Posette and Dork, those are the semi-official nicknames of the P4 Nude Woman and P4 Nude Man.

ohhh ok. I was having a bit of a problem there. Thanks for the tutorial advice will see what I can find. Thanks again.

Congratulations on the ride you are about to embark on...I think Renderosity has great tutorials and there are lots around. To do many things. Maybe it would be easier for you to play first, then compile a small list and I am sure someone can help you out. To answer that question on a whole, even us whom have had Poser a long time are still learning. The magnitude of things that can be done here are endless. Welcome again. Sharen

Save yourself some time and trouble. Don't bother to print the Poser manual. You might read it over, and agree with many of us that it's useless. Then just spend some time reading the Poser FAQ, and the forum messages here.

The poser 4 manual is available to download at www.curiouslabs.com but it is quite a big file.

But the one at the CL site is exactly the same as the one on the CD.

Neither manual is worth your time or trouble.

xantor ( ) posted Fri, 31 December 2004 at 3:16 AM

The poser 4 has most of the basic stuff in it, it is just hard to follow at times.

randym77 ( ) posted Fri, 31 December 2004 at 7:52 AM

I kind of like the Poser 4 manual. The tutorials were enough to get me started, anyway.

The Poser 5 manual, OTOH...that thing is useless. :-P

Bobbie_Boucher ( ) posted Fri, 31 December 2004 at 9:26 AM

I tried very hard to follow the Poser 4 manual, including one of their tutorials. But I was unable to complete the first tutorial due to the poor quality. I tried even harder to get through the Poser 5 manual, but got really tired when they were using terms for processes that weren't the same in the actual program. Then in one tutorial, they said to use the "waterfall.jpg," which was not on the CD's. Did we ever get that file?

CL posted waterfall.jpg for download on their site but I think it's no longer available.

I think it would be good Business Sense for Curious Labs to give all us Poser 5 users a fully updated CD set. I hate fumbling about trying to make sure I've installed all the pieces. In fact, I never did get all the promised pieces. Weren't there some animals that we never got?

barrowlass ( ) posted Sat, 01 January 2005 at 7:15 AM

I've looked thru the PDF "manual" with my P4 - duh! duh! duh! It's like going thru mud with treacle boots on! lol best wishes from another newbie

My aspiration: to make a decent Poser Render I'm an Oldie, a goldie, but not a miracle worker :-)
