Subject: Support for Vicky 2

Phantast ( ) posted Sun, 02 January 2005 at 7:13 AM · edited Wed, 12 February 2025 at 6:51 AM

People have complained about the fact that no-one is making new stuff for Vicky 2 anymore. Although I use Vicky 3, I also still have a lot of use for the older models, especially as they don't take so long to load and save, and aren't cluttered with all these useless empty morph channels. But actually it's worse than no new stuff appearing, the old stuff is disappearing. Quite a number of V2 items seem to have been pulled from the RMP, and I don't fully understand why - there isn't a limit on the number of items one merchant can have, is there? I noticed because one item that was for a long time on my wish list has been removed. But I also see that many of my past purchases are no longer available.

Aeneas ( ) posted Sun, 02 January 2005 at 7:20 AM

Be glad with what you have. Perhaps you can contact the merchant that made the item you fancy personally and ask? V2 had a good hisory. Many a thing has been done for that mesh. For Stephanie, there was much less support. When it comes to skins, you can use the UTC utility and, evt the necessary plugins for characters. It redraws the texture on the UV map of the mesh of your choice.

I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now I'll be mad. (Rumi)

That's one thing that always irks me about the Poser stores. They generate so much interest in various characters, and all the clothes, skin textures, hair, etc. Then you spend your money, and watch the characters disappear into oblivion. Of course, Vicky 2 has been around longer than any of the other forgotten characters. My best recommendation would be to join Poserworld. They've created a wealth of clothes for Vicky 2, Mike 2, and Stephanie, in addition to Vicky 3, Mike 3, David, etc. In fact, they often create versions of their clothing for all the popular characters! They already have clothes for Luke and Laura (young teens).

I believe there is a limit on the number of items a merchant can have for sale, unless they make a certain amount of sales. IIRC, it's three. Unless you're a bestselling merchant, in which case you can have as many as you want.

I think any item that doesn't sell well is pulled. First it's moved to the warehouse, and if it still doesn't sell, it's removed. So it may not be the merchant who pulled the product.

You could try looking for the item in the other stores. And some merchants have sold their products to third parties. DarkWhispers' V1/2 stuff was sold to DAZ, I believe; they are slowly releasing some of it, mostly in the PC.

But yeah, V1/2 and M1/2 products just don't sell very well any more. Not that many people are still making them, so as the older products are rotated out, there's going to be less and less V2 stuff available. Buy 'em now, while you can, I guess.

maxxxmodelz ( ) posted Sun, 02 January 2005 at 8:04 AM

The Mil figures in general seem to have more than their share of stuff. I really wish there were as much support for Judy/EJ and Don as there are for V2 or M2 figures so I didn't have to keep modeling my own. I guess I'll live though. :-(

If there are no sales of an item for three months it's moved to the warehouse If it goes another three months with no sales, it's dropped from the RMP. The reason all that stuff disappeared from the marketplace is because nobody was buying it.

That only goes to show how Poserworld makes more sense. For instance, you could spend $60 for an annual subscription. You'll find stuff for Vicky 2, Mike 2, and the current "generation 3" figures. I have problems with the responses I get when requesting more stuff for my DAZ Poser characters. Someone always says "there isn't enough demand," when many people like myself want the stuff. By the way, who has the Warehouse? Is it still around?

It's still there. I know what you mean on that, because I still use Posette a lot, and it's getting pretty hard to find Posette stuff. There used to be tons of stuff for her back when she was all there was, but these days...

PoserWorld is great, but it's not the answer to everything. I have a subscription to PoserWorld, but I still buy a ton of other stuff. They can't make everything. If people really bought V2 and M2 stuff, it wouldn't be disappearing from the MP. The older stuff would stay in the stores, and merchants would make new stuff. As long as it sells, someone will make it. But it doesn't sell. One merchant said she got thirty e-mails begging her to convert one of her M3 outfits to M2. So she did. And sold all of two copies. People always say they want V2/M2 stuff, but they don't put their money where their mouths are.

People always say they want V2/M2 stuff, but they don't put their money where their mouths are. That's also the reason why there isn't much support for the Poser 5 characters. So many say they want to see stuff for them, but it just doesn't sell.

Best place to go is Poserworld for sure. I do have M1/V1, M3rr/V3rr and Steph1. All of the stuff I do use in my scenes for these characters comes from either the DAZ PC Club or Poserworld. Here's what I would recommend, get a DAZ PC Club subscription and buy as much stuff as you can for the old figures (and perhaps new figures) and the quit the membership. Get an annual subscription at Poserworld and renew it once a year. I did this too. Well, I'm still a member a the DAZ PC Club until they release Bryce 5.5, but after that I'm quiting my membership. Why? Because there's no new stuff coming for the older figures at DAZ anymore and most of the stuff they do release isn't of my interest at all. After all how many clothes can one use? I've got more then enough clothes by now to create 100's of scenes. I don't have a annual membership anymore at Poserworld, but upgraded to a lifetime one. Why? Because I'm very happy with the price and the number of various items that are released every week. The quality is good and the variation too. Also the price you pay at Poserworld is excellent. As for Poserworld not being enough, perhaps not, but that depends on your needs, they've got lot's and lot's of stuff there. Then again how much will you use after all. I know quite a number of people here and at DAZ buying and buying and buying some more clothes and other items, and ending up never using the stuff at all.

Artwork and 3DToons items, create the perfect place for you toon and other figures!

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

Food for thought.....

If you want to do contemporary stuff, PoserWorld can't be beat. I love the ethnic and historical costumes, too. It definitely fills a niche. But most Poser users are into pinups, fantasy, or SF, not real-life stuff. Steve's got a little of the latter two, but not much. And no character textures. ( My last purchase was Rodluc's castle construction kit. My next purchase will likely be the two "Obsession" character packs from DAZ.)

Bobbie_Boucher ( ) posted Sun, 02 January 2005 at 2:15 PM

The warehouse is still where? I can't find it in the Renderosity Marketplace. So it's either not there, or they don't care if we ever find it. I prefer to buy "real life" clothes for my characters. I don't care about Fantasy and SciFi for the most part. It's been very hard to find more than a couple Real World outfits over the years. I probably find more of what I want at Poserworld. I'm not going to buy something unless I can find what I want. DAZ's PC Club is really frustrating since I often had to hunt all over to find anything that attracted my interest. That included the 10 free items I got for joining. Again, there is a shortage of "real world" stuff that I wanted. Yes, you could get good discounts on some things, if you wanted them. I quit the PC Club partly due to the lack of really interesting stuff. The Poser 5 characters are a big disappointment. I'm not about to buy stuff for them until they finally are all "together." We need more morphs and such for them. I think Curious Labs promised to "complete" them, but never followed through. Before I buy a character, I try to look ahead, and see just what is available for them. I don't want another useless character. Dina and She Freak are still running around here, either naked or in their thread-bare bikinis.

I've certainly noticed Vicky 2 stuff creeping into the DAZ Platinum Club list. Sometimes there's a lot of freebie textures elsewhere. Check the Dress Coat Italia. Also, Imran did some versions of standard P4 clothes for Vicky, which seem to work well for the less strained poses: free, and again there are a lot of textures. Current good buy for Vicky 2 is the A2Z set. But you can still do good things with Posette, as I hope this picture will show.

randym77 ( ) posted Sun, 02 January 2005 at 3:08 PM

The warehouse is still around somewhere. I see a lot of items marked "WH," anyway.

But if you want not only V2 items, but contemporary V2 items, you're pretty much out of luck, except for PoserWorld. And I wonder how much longer they'll continue to support V2. They don't make Posette and Dork items any more, so there's a limit to how much they'll support "legacy" products.

I clicked on warehouse & it said NO products found o.O

But there are a lot of items in the Warehouse nonetheless. Like this one.

I know...I see the WH, by items..but can't view just the warehouse..very strange.

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Sun, 02 January 2005 at 3:57 PM

It looks like the marketplace is sorted by categories, and you have to be in a category which includes Warehouse items. It's certainly working for me, right now. [Clickety-click stuff happens] No, you can't access the Warehouse at the "Poser" level; you have to be at least one step down.

Bobbie_Boucher ( ) posted Sun, 02 January 2005 at 4:03 PM · edited Sun, 02 January 2005 at 4:04 PM

Well that's certainly confusing. I have to guess which category might have Warehouse items?

The thing that surprises me is the Warehouse stuff might vanish. It's not something I ever heard of before. Though there's a lot of stuff I'm seeing which I could probably do with a Poser 5 material setting. Unless it's modifying an item, I'm not sure what point there is in a PVC texture for somebody else's clothing object.

PapaBlueMarlin ( ) posted Sun, 02 January 2005 at 4:50 PM

Does anyone know if PoserWorld supports Neftis' Elle figure? Elle has almost no support whatsoever.

randym77 ( ) posted Sun, 02 January 2005 at 5:16 PM

So far as I know, they don't. I don't think Steve even owns that figure. They support V1/2, V3, SP, the Girl, Aiko, and Laura. With some stuff for Sara, Koshini, Mayadoll, and Alexa.

Phantast ( ) posted Sun, 02 January 2005 at 6:04 PM

Oh yes, Poserworld is great, as the frequent testimonials in this forum show. However, the fact remains that many V2 items have actually been pulled from the RMP - and without ever going into the warehouse so far as I can see.

randym77 ( ) posted Sun, 02 January 2005 at 6:10 PM

If they're on your wishlist, you should see the WH next to them once they go into the Warehouse. If you check your wishlist regularly, of course. But since merchants are allowed only three items unless they become very successful, merchants might well pull an item that's not selling well on their own.

dlk30341 ( ) posted Sun, 02 January 2005 at 6:41 PM

No wonder items disappear....they need to have a link directly to the warehouse...I don't want to have to search thru 4000+ items to locate a WH item.....oh well...there loss :(

Bobbie_Boucher ( ) posted Sun, 02 January 2005 at 10:05 PM

Yes, if I have to do more than 2-3 clicks, I stop looking. I just hate scrolling through over 100 pages of "new" stuff at DAZ. I know most of that is not new.

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Mon, 03 January 2005 at 1:43 AM

I'm thinking this Warehouse business maybe needs a distinct thread. One aspect of it all to think about -- neither DAZ nor Renderosity seem all that well set up to find items meant for a particular Vicky.

Tguyus ( ) posted Mon, 03 January 2005 at 8:53 AM

I keep checking RMP and Daz, but also find a continual dearth of new hair and clothes for V2, though there is a continual stream of new stuff for V3. I have V3, but IMO it is a terrible mesh for any body shape other than the default and for any pose except standing upright with straight arms. Not much use to me.

End result for me? I don't buy anything at all from Daz or RMP these days. Now, if they come out with a V4 which has knees, elbows, and thighs which don't distort unnaturally when evenly minimally bent and a better articulation of breasts and chest, I'll reopen my wallet. Until then, I'll just work on fine-tuning my V2.

Bobbie_Boucher ( ) posted Mon, 03 January 2005 at 9:13 AM

To tell you the truth, it's gotten to the point where I don't want to buy from any online Poser store. There seems to be a general attitude against the customer. That problem seems to have gotten even worse over the past year or so. If you find a problem with your purchases, you're liable to expose yourself to all sorts of trouble if you complain, privately or publicly. That is just plain wrong.

Faery_Light ( ) posted Sun, 09 January 2005 at 4:45 AM

V2 is one of my favs. I just reposted my SaBelle for V2 in the RMP. No actual clothes but you can dress her in jeans and top or undies with a Mat file included in the package. Wish I knew how to create clothing and I'd do more. As for textures, I do for both V2, M2 and V3, M3 models. But V3/M3 are memory hogs. I'm working on a couple of texture sets for V2 and M2 and may put them in freestuff later.

Let me introduce you to my multiple personalities. :)
