Vanishing Point announces the launch of THE D-DAY PROJECT. This themed project is open to everyone, merchants and freestuff providers. The project will see the release of many new Poser models, as well as supporting and add-on products.

Vanishing Point will be releasing two large environment models, the D-Day landing beach in Normandy (as seen in the movies Saving Private Ryan and The Longest Day), and a WWII British airfield. We will also be releasing various models, such as the Supermarine Spitfire, Landing Craft, Leopold Gun, various aircraft, tanks, armoured cars, trucks and support vehicles, to use in these environments.

Vanishing Point will also be releasing freebies that support the theme, and people are welcome to make suggestions for things they would like. In total there will be about sixty products (free and commercial) released for this theme.

What we need is for the community to get involved and to produce the clothes from the period, for both the military and civilians, poses for the period, textures, soundtracks, characters and props.

If anyone has an existing product that they would like to add to the project, then they are free to do so. Vanishing Point will add any existing or new product to our market place, and no exclusivity is required, so you can keep selling it on other sites. If anyone has free items that fit the theme, they are welcome to add links to it on Vanishing Point.

Vanishing Point will make some buttons available for adding to your thumbnails and renders, and they can be downloaded from the site. There will also a texture resource package available for free from the site, which can be used on models for the period. These include insignia for uniforms, camouflages from the period, etc.

Feel free to make any suggestions and additions to this theme.

(PS. Before adding anything to this theme, feel free to do some research. Anyone uploading elves, F15 fighter jets, NVIATWASs and lightsabres to this theme will be publicly humiliated before being dragged out and stoned in the village square.)

Due to the overwhelming response to the project, we have decided that the free resource pack for making uniforms will only be available to those who ask for it. The resource pack contains some helpful things for anyone wanting to make WWII uniforms, such as textures, insignia, etc. IM me if anyone is interested. Otherwise we will just go this alone like we did with the Aliens for Poser project.

Don't be too disheartened Helgard! Everyone's busy whoopin' it up and shittin' bricks because V3 and M3 are now free!! Novel idea....isn't it! :) You guys make great stuff and you have my interest! I love history.....all era's.....and am much more inclined to buy items that you don't see a hundred of. Unfortunately, I can't "make" anything! Just don't have the time right now to teach myself either modeling or texturing. But if you create it.....I will most like buy it! :)

I agree with Sandoppe. Please don't see the lack of responses here as lack of interest in the project. I think it's hard to get people to do "theme" releases because everyone likes different themes. Judging by the market place here, some people seem to only use poser for naked victoria renders - there sure are enough of those products... Anyway I was actually working on some WW2 renders/animations and I was specifically looking for a landing boat/D-Day scene and now here it is! I'll definately buy that model and I think you'd have a great theme going at your own store! Please PLEASE don't lose interest! I'm very interested myself and the poser market needs more quality WW2 products. I'd offer to model or texture but in all honesty, I suck at both. That's why I buy poser models :D but I can make renders of your products to promote them if that would help any.

Helgard, That's a fantastic project you're doing! Am very interrested in it, as I'm a history buff from way back. Don't know how much I can offer in the way of help, but, do have access to pics of the patches (including "Ghost Units") from the period if you want them. Also, my site has the medals as Poser props that you could provide a link to (they are free to anyone who wants them). IM me when you get the chance. Keep up the good work. Robin

Are you guys interested in a German Panther tank by any chance? I have one that I modelled some time ago, sitting gathering dust in my LightWave directory. I'd need to convert it to Poser format and I'm not sure how viable that would be, not having modelled it with Poser in mind. It's just a thought, anyway.

You know what would really be cool? The holy grail of the poser world...a tank with working tracks in Poser. That would be awesome! There was a thread in the Poser forum awhile back about this, and there are some products in the market place that have movable tracks...but they are not WW2 tanks or even really any sort of tank. One is a tank-bike thing and the other is a space vehicle from some TV show. Anyway a tank with morphing tracks would be too cool. What do you think guys? Do-able? If you could build the model the right way, I'd be interested in figuring out how to make the tracks move (I can't model or texture worth squat but I do know how to program and I also know a bit about poser .cr2 files).

Edit: Link to thread attached.

Rubicon and Nahie, I have just started modelling a Panzer IV, but if you want I can scrap that and we can do a combined effort on the Panther. I know how to program the movable tracks, using the method by VK, but it is very very difficult. The easier way is to use morphs. Do you want this to be a market place item or freebie? I don't mind either way, if you want to sell it we can split the money or whatever, not that important to me, but this must be the best tank ever made for Poser. Let me know what you guys want to do, and I will do what needs to be done. Helgard

Hmm, the "best tank ever made for Poser" bit scares me - heh. As it stands, it's a pretty decent model. I used photo and blueprint references and made it as accurately as possible, to be an Ausf A Panther, which would fit in nicely with the D-Day theme. The tracks are not animated. In fact, they're one piece, although I do have the single track link as a separate object. It would need re-texturing too, as that zimmerit scheme doesn't do much for me anymore and I did make quite a bit of use of LightWave's procedural textures. Also the skirts need re-doing. I may need to spend a bit of time on it, to get it rendering properly in Poser. Is time a factor? Maybe we should take this to IM or email discussions, to avoid clogging up the forum here. Stefan

Anybody else feels like working on tanks, check this thread and get involved.

Here's a WW2 outfit. I could help convert models to Poser format if anyone needs help in that area. (I could make them poseable figures)
