Hello all,I recently acquired Vue 4 Pro and have a question about this conversion utility it is telling me to use. When i open a .vob file i got from the web it tells me it is from vue 3 or whatever,to use the conversion utility. What conversion utility are the refering to? The same happens to some .mat files as well. And is there a way to use Bryce .mats in Vue 4 pro? these are my questions, thanks in advance for your help.

I can't help with the Bryce question but the conversion utility is a file on your original Vue 4 Pro disk set. It was sort of an after thought by e-on and it comes with a warning that it dosen't always work. And I have found that to be true. You start it directly and it sort of runs thru everthing in the vue folders and offten crashes. Have fun! Glenn

ok, the Bryce material question is a simple "No". Not possible even when both material files have the same extention "mat". BUT. Two things you can try. #1 Apply in Bryce a material to an object that can be exported from Bryce. As 3DS or obj for example. Then import that into Vue. If you are lucky it works in a way. I had that luck from time to time. #2 If you are a Mac user you have an option of a program that is called Bryce2Vue (when i remember it right). I think the link to that is somewhere here in the backroom. I havent tried that out because i love clear cuts. Bryce is Bryce and Vue is Vue - and Schnapps is Schapps.

I was just wondering because there is a wealth of cool mats for Bryce on the net, expecially fire that i do not see for Vue.I am a Bryce user as well, but i am learning Vue,and so far it is superior in my oppinion,Expecially the material editing options. Thanks for the help.

Here's my "stock post" (with some editing for this particular question)... You CAN use Bryce Mats in Vue but they won't be PROCEDURAL- but they CAN be used as TEXTURE MAPS in Vue. With some decent bump mapping in the Vue materials editor you can make them look very CLOSE (but not identical)to how they look in Bryce. --Here's how.... LINK: Wolfie also shows how to get close approximations of Bryce materials, etc. Amazingly, to this day, very FEW Bryce users seem to know about Wolfies Tutorials- (I have been posting this link for YEARS and YEARS when this question always came up-) And... 3D Exploration is a MAJOR help also in getting the best file conversions of your Bryce exported Meshes. It will usually straighten out most problems. Here's where you can get an older FREE copy, if you don't have the newer (and better) Deep Exploration version... http://www.dsmith.gmaxsupport.com/Essential_Tools.htm
