let me present my friend Angeline :-) I am sure I will be learning much more from all of you. I only know the basics of Bryce. You're in the right place. We have some extremely talented people here... FastTraxx, thenodemaster, and quite a few others who'll go out of their way to help you learn more than you ever wanted on this program. One of the best things to do is get a copy of Susan Kitchen "Real World Bryce4" and then just sit down and play with the program, don't be afraid to try different things, even if they seem wierd or unworkable - just to see what effects you get. That's basically how I learned most of the little expertise I have at it... just experimenting and keeping the experiments that worked.

THat's the only way is to learn through experiment. The down side is unless you have a pencil and paper handy to trace your steps, you can't always result in the same effect when working with a different image. I really need to learn how each effect interacts with the other. When I get into some of the frames that have illuminosity, and the noise and different palettes, I start to get very confused and I actually am not sure what I am doing to the image other than what it shows me in those little window frames after applying the effect.Or a good memory for the steps you took. :) I'm afraid that in some areas I still get lost in various elements of the material editors and others. Best to start with getting the basic elemnts of scene composition and applying materials, getting the sky right for the scene, and then gradually delving into the depths of the deep texture editor and other esoteric stuff. There are a wealth of tutorials in the link on the sidebar to the right that can get you started. Also... I've picked up a lot just from browsing the galleries and staring at images untill I figured out how they achieved a look or effect I was interested in.

Welcome to the best Bryce Forum on the web. I started out on Bryce some two years ago, dinking around with things until I ran across Renderosity. The wonderful people here not only help with frustrating conundrums, but they actually go out of their way to make it easier for you to understand the processes. You couldn't have found a better home. The key to anything in life is practice and the patience to make many learning mistakes.

I have a friend, Len Kaltman, an extremely talented photograpaher who spent 2 hours on the phone with me one night giving me the basics of bryce4. His stuff is absolutely incredible. This program is just amazing and I am glad he pointed me to renderosity to see all the talent in here. I am sure I will learn tons more thanks to all the fine talent in here now. Have a great new year everyone!
