Subject: DAZ Young teens vs. The Aeon Teens

matsmolund ( ) posted Thu, 06 January 2005 at 3:20 PM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 11:47 AM

With V3 and M3 you can build far more amazing characters than with the second generation. I just bought DAZ young teens and Im not totally excited, the possibilities are not near the adults. I almost never use teens and kids in my poser pics. Its a pity. And now I dont know if its worth to buy a lot of clothes to the new generation teens. Can someone compare them with the Aeon Teens? Are they more expressive? If so can you convert M3 and V3 clothes to them? Best, Mats

The Aeon figures themselves are very cheap, but you need the corresponding DAZ figures to make them work because the use the DAZ figures. Finding clothing for them is a bitch although dodger has produced a tutorial to convert the clothing to (more or less)fit. I only have 'Robin' the Aeon kid which can be 'grown' from about 5yrs to about 13yrs. It's a great figure with lots of possibilites, the only drawback being the lack of clothing available. Jack

Thank you, Jack. I just realized that you can apply all the V3 morph expansions on the DAZ teens so now the future looks brighter. Mats

You can apply them to the Aeons too i think, not sure though, been i while since i had it open. Jack

From what i understand both DAZ and Aeon have some issues with using the morphs designed for adult bodies on the smaller child bodies. Most will be acceptable (but require lower settings) but some may have odd results or just look bad. for example, i have the young teens and applied Sixus1's Lycan-V to Laura. her chest became concave (because the lycan morph makes V3's breasts smaller). i could roll back the morphs in that area to a level that was ok, but it never looked quite right because i had to essentially tweak the whole body to get the different areas to mesh smoothly. Thus I ended up with something less than lycan. This is a bit of an extreme example (seeing as the lycan morphs are pretty extreme morphs) and the differences in the morphs may not be an issue for you, but you should know that using V3 morphs on smaller figures is not a perfect solution.

What I found with the young teens is using the Steph3 morphs seemed to work better for what I was trying to do. I did use some of V3's morphs, but they had to be set at a smaller value. I also scaled the figure up to 125 since I was after an older teen. Ed

The Aeons can use V3, SP, M3 and I belive Dodger has added the Young Teens now as well to the channels. It is true that you have to dial some morphs down for them to look right on the models (Seth/Anna is around 0.8, Rapheal/Mary around 0.6 or so. Haven't tried it with Robin yet). Clothing...So far the Default Poser4 clothes and the V3/SP package has been converted to Anna. Davids clothes have been converted over to Seth and Raphael. From my experience you can take Young Teen clothes over to Mary and Raphael with some minor tweaking, most of the work can be done in Poser and notepad (ie CR2 Hacking). It takes time and paintence though. I converted the Wizard Clothes from PoserWorld over to Raphael and Mary in about 2 hours. The only hard part I had with it was girls shoes. As for comparison...I own the Young Teens & the Aeon Kids (Anna, Seth, Raphael, Mary & Robin). My preference is for the Aeon kids though. Mos tof what I've gotten for YT I've converted over. Since the Aeon kids are built using Mil3 textures it opens up posibilites (remember, the Kids came out before Young Teens and the MilKids took V2 textuers). If you do kids/teens I suggest getting the Aeon folk. Yes, clothes are sparse, but there's a forum for Aeon Extras on PoserPros (you get access to it if you buy any of the aeon stuff) and there are people who have converted items that you can download (you still have to have the orignal though due to ownerships etc). If you do decide to get them I'd suggest Seth/Anna or Robin first. Robin is the Kid of the group and can go younger or (depending on the morph) into an older boy or girl. The way the morphs run they do age/deage(?) pretty smoothly, Mary (@ Old:1) taking up where Anna (@ Young:1) leaves off. If your on PoserPros here's a link to two of my pictures. One done with Anna, the other Seth. http://www.poserpros.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=34672 http://www.poserpros.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=30777 Not the best pics I've done but you can get the idea :)

matsmolund, In favor of the DAZ teens, you might find the attached link to be useful.....although having said that, I have the Aeon teens as well and they are great.

Thank you. The link was very useful. I played around a litte with the DAZ teens, imported a bunch of morphs via macconstructor and was very pleased. Took Luke all the way to a very grown up looking teen, perhaps he looked more like a little man, also an interesting opportunity. Mats

Just messing around making a (kind of) Demi Moore looking character from Laura.

SWAMP... mucho thanks for that tute that was linked (the one you wrote earlier) - I used the SP3 .cr2 instead of V3, and it works perfectly. I used MoprhManager in Linux to switch out the morphs (I've found that most of the Win32-based Poser utilities work damned well in Linux via cxoffice...) (dude - how did you get that "Love Anybody" shirt to fit?) /P

SWAMP ( ) posted Sat, 08 January 2005 at 4:32 PM

Hey Peng... I used the SP3 cr2 when I first got the YT but found the Vic3 works just as good but with more morph options. What I was playing with in the image above was the stock Laura with just the "Daz V3 Face Sculpting Pack" transferred and injected to see if they would work (they worked just fine). "Love Anybody"...just conform it, scale it down and spin the dials. That thing has so many morphs that it will fit just about any figure (once they are fixed in a pose). Same for the bottoms, which is part of the "GypsyRose bikini". SWAMP

True... wusamah has always been good about making stuff almost universal. I'd tried using the V3 sr1 .cr2, but for some reason it was only 1.2MB and while it somehow works on other figures within Poser, it didn't work at all w/ MM. S3 OTOH worked like a charm. /P

.... it was only 1.2MB.." A fresh install gives me 1.4MBMaybe you've got a corrupt Vicky on your hands.
