Subject: Anyone used the Pose program from Daz?

Trying to figure out why there are two sets, they both look like they do the same thing. Is it that some folks have p5 and some propack? Thanks, Marque

Yes, there are different versions, one for PP, one for P5. Haven't tried it, though. I'm hoping someone else will, and give a review. :-) I see the new "Particles" is in the store now, too. I'm definitely tempted by that.

I have it and not sure if I like it. Some of the "particles" appear to be screens with a pic on them and if the light hits them you can see it clearly. Will keep working with it, but I'm glad Daz has such a great refund policy. Got the pose script too, but haven't had a chance to mess with it yet. Marque

Interested in Paricles as well.....My guess they use alpha planes????? So my guess this does NOT compare to weird juice??? Guess I'll patiently wait......

No this is not the same as weird juice, that I do know. It actually has some cool possiblities, but I'm still not sure about how to use it...so please don't take my mistakes to heart. I will keep messing with it this weekend. Marque

To clarify: Particles 2 can use "sprites" (alpha-ed planes that always face towards the camera, no matter which way you move it) or any fully-3D object you want. Sprites are a great way to get fantastical effects (like the fire on the splash page), or you might care to use 3D objects (like the feathery stars in one of the sample images). Most game engines use sprites to generate their special effects, to give you some idea of how these new shapes could be applied.

This is a straight on shot of the cloud sprite from P5 with all the updates. Rendered in firefly at 4 on pixels samples. If I'm supposed to be able to see this in any direction why do I have this line in a straight on view? What am I doing wrong? Thanks, Marque

When you get noticeable artifacts (like the one in your image), select the Body of the particle figure and try rotating it slightly on the X or Y axis (there shouldn't be any significant change to the shape of the cloud). At times, Poser may need this bit of "convincing" to make the angles work with one another. The clouds are more susceptible to line artifacts because they're relatively opaque and rely mainly on diffuse color. Sprite-based systems that are more transparent and rely mainly on ambient color are less likely to give you line artifacts (sparks or fire would be a good example of these). Hope this helps!

You can manually move around the individual particles if you'd like, wouldn't mess up a thing. In fact, that's a great way to bring focus to an area. For the fire promo image, I wanted some extra emphasis on the hand, so I grabbed a few stray particles and dragged them over. And don't forget--since Particles 2 systems are Poser figures, you can save poses for them in your library, use the pose dots and save them to your Figure library. All of the amenties that Poser offers for figures can be used for particle figures as well.
