THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Millennium Dragon export/import issue

decadence ( ) posted Tue, 11 January 2005 at 5:30 PM · edited Wed, 25 December 2024 at 8:09 AM

Hi Folks, I'm trying to import the Millennium Dragon into bryce and ran into the infamous message "a file error ocured (bad i/o media)" popped up. I tried to export from PP4 as both .obj and 3ds, and still get this error when I pull it into bryce. The same holds true if I use grouper or not. I even wiped out the contents of the mtl file. Anybody ever run into this problem or have a clue how to get around it? Thanks in advance

If you don't have Daz Studio beta, get it(used to be available for free,...don't know if it still is or not). I had a similar prolem exporting mobieus's free Dystopia mods from PP4, but when opened and exported from Daz Studio beta they worked just fine.

Thanks I was thinking of using Daz studio....I don't have a problem with exporting/importing anything else, I thought there might be an issue with the Millennium Dragon. Thanks

DS...Its still Free...

It's a problem if you check that item on using exact body part names and so on. Uncheck everything, You'll get enough parts: body, belly, claws, spikes, eyes, mouth parts, tongue...

Tried Daz studio...even Daz had an issue...but I just tried slapping it on...Let me try unchecking everything. Usually I uncheck weld seams and obj's import fine but let me try unchecking all. Thanks guys

Open it up in UV Mapper, save it out, and you are done.

Ok I reinstalled Daz studio and had it do it's "search"...And it worked!!. So I think I'm all set. Thanks all for your help. I guess I'll try using Daz studio for exporting instead of grouper...Why it didn't do a straight import into bryce puzzeling.

The Dragon has an infamous degenerate face in the mesh that Bryce hates. I used Grouper and had trouble before. I tweaked the pose around a little and got unstuck. If you overtorque poses or put hands on knees and accidently put one mesh inside the other Bryce will balk. Studio is probably the best way to go.

I don't frequent these forums as much as I should....Let me ask you hardcore Bryce users and advocates, what do you all think of Daz studio for importing/exporting Poser/Bryce respectfully ? vs Grouper or any other means? To be honest it felt good not having to go hunt for textures!

GROINGRINDER ( ) posted Wed, 12 January 2005 at 12:11 AM

I place all my project textures in my project folder where Bryce can find them. I sometimes use grouper, but usually do things manually. I did not find Daz studio to be helpful, as it could not import obj models. Obj models are the basis of my existence so it was bye, bye, DAZ Studio.

I only use DAZ Studio to open and convert Poser models so they can be used in Bryce. But some models give me an "Out of Memory" error when i import it into bryce so i use Accutrans 3D to convert the .obj file of those models to .3ds which imports fine. PS: I'm still learning how to use DAZ Studio so i haven't done any female or male models yet because i don't know how to install the hair, head or clothing morphs i want to use. One day i will. Can't be bothered asking the twits at DAZ.

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

The Bad I/O Media error is the #IND that gets added by the PC Poser Pro Pack. It can be fixed by removing the #IND either in a text editor, by using Grouper, or by using MeTaL Fixer - or exporting from DS and avoiding the export error. http://www.fignations.com/jelisa/tutorials/propack.html#badmedia http://www.castironflamingo.com/tutorial/grouper/index.html - Grouper http://www.fignations.com/jelisa/mtl/mtl_fixer.html - MeTaL Fixer

Hmmm... I was gonna say, I've never had a problem with the Mil Dragon. But I'm using Poser 5, although it's got to be the worst application ever...

decadence ( ) posted Wed, 12 January 2005 at 7:55 AM

Yes I was using Poser Pro Pack 4 and only once in a while I'll have a problem with exporting files. I'll give Daz studio a try just for export/import....

"The Dragon has an infamous degenerate face" Electroglyph, watch it! Humans are crunchy, and go good with ketchup!

I was told way back when Dragon LE came out that if you count the points and divide by 3 you have one left over. Never actually did it myself and I'm probably just talking out my #$$. To make a surface you need three points. Poser ignores this but Bryce goes???? I did not mean to suggest that all dragons are degenerates. I mean, lets look at movies... There's Red Dragon. It's about, uh... a cannibal who eats people. Well how about DragonCon? Lots of wholesome entertainment can be found there. There's the Rocky Horror tribute, uh. How about the Betty Page look-alike contest, well. There's the reverend Suzy the Floozy. She's holding a devival for the church of Bob and handing out spankings and face hugging bats. no? What about Shrek? There's a dragon without any problems, except she falls in love with a donkey who also happens to be Eddie Murphy. Are extra species romances bad if you are not a human? And don't they have the cutest little dragkeys or dongons or whatever they are. I'm trying not to be judgmental here. When was the last time you saw a dragon that just killed knights and chomped maidens?

CrazyDawg ( ) posted Wed, 12 January 2005 at 11:33 AM

Hey i have a dragon and she never kills anyone. She may hurt me at times but thats only when i make fun of her long claws or scaly skin, not to mention the bad breath or smoke that comes out of her nose. Sorry Ehlana, still love you :)

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.
