Subject: This Forum Sucks

EsotericFury ( ) posted Wed, 12 January 2005 at 3:08 PM · edited Tue, 05 November 2024 at 10:24 PM

Old topics that no one replied to anymore keep getting auto-deleted. They were still good topic because they had alot of good info you couldn't get anywhere else. I made a really good post to share tips and I want to see if anyone added their own tips and to reread my tips cuz I haven't used the program in a long time, and the thread is gone. You guys should consider switching to a better forum software, like PHP BB, its free and better.

Before being insulting, you could start by looking at that forum more closely. Older posts are still there, available thrrough the 'Search' function and through the 'Archives' function. Both links are visible from every forum.

Or maybe you asked the questing using your other account?

you really had to point out the policy violation? ;-]

I love the economical use of text in the subject line. Pretty hard to get any more to the point than that. ;-) -ScottA

"policy violation?" Nope... Having two accounts is not one that I know of.

Having two accounts is not one that I know of. That's funny. I know someone who was banned (including an IP ban) for having two accounts. He was told that it WAS a violation of policy. Of course, that was a while ago, so perhaps it's not a violation NOW.... bonni

Only two? I'm told the average member here has more than four.

EsotericFury ( ) posted Wed, 12 January 2005 at 10:20 PM

Thanks agiel. And I really don't get what my post from my other account (that I don't use anymore) has to do with anything? I made a post about it before right here in community center, and then replied to it under my new username. I asked how to change my username because I made a mistake and put the wrong username when I signed up, and I was told that I should make a new account instead. So, if that was an attempt to get me banned,(over what? a bad attempt at attention grabbing/humour in my thread title? gimme a break....) then that was a really poor job.

The fact that I am the forums admin should tell you that I am not trying to get you banned or anything. I am simply asking you if you might have made the post using your other account and that is why it did not come up in a search. However, I think the post you might be looking for might be this one (link)

Well... with 3 accounts I find myself firmly in the middle. :P

You know what is right for you. I know what is right for me.

No, I didn't make the post I'm talking about under my ex-username.

I need to start up another account.

No reason: merely on general principles.

Spike, is there any chance we might get a better search? This one really, really sucks. I mean, go search for your user name in a forum. You'll get a list of posts, including the posts from other people in threads you participated in. Then do a search on a topic you know you posted on and you'll almost certainly get posts that didn't come up in the first search.

Yes, It is on the list of things to fix, just not at the top of the list right now.

SeanE ( ) posted Thu, 13 January 2005 at 7:58 PM

"fix the search function".. that must be the one listed right above the "able to change membership name" item on the to - do list :+P

Natolii ( ) posted Fri, 14 January 2005 at 8:18 AM

Spike, To publically disclose another members alternative User names is a violation of their privacy. You are the forum Administrator and should know better.

elizabyte ( ) posted Fri, 14 January 2005 at 8:34 AM

So, if that was an attempt to get me banned If you're referring to me, no, why would I want you banned? My post was in reference to someone who WAS banned, and the reason given was "multiple accounts". Now we find out that it's not a violation at all, so basically, he was given a totally bogus reason for his banning. I was pointing out an inconsistancy in the so-called policies, nothing more. bonni

Natolii, It was pullic info, read his post (link). Bonni, Who was banned for that? Send me a IM if you like and I will check the records. I am willing to bet that was not why the member was banned.

hmmm... I must be doing something wrong then. I only have the one user account... heads off to the register board to crank out a few alternatives :+P

Who was banned for that? Send me a IM if you like and I will check the records. I am willing to bet that was not why the member was banned. Oh, I know there were other reasons, as well. ;-) It's just that he was told privately that one of the reasons for the banning was multiple accounts. bonni

nontroppo ( ) posted Fri, 14 January 2005 at 10:31 PM

Wellll... I have two accounts. I checked the available info first and couldn't find any policy against it. The reason was that I wanted to standardise my handle across sites before becoming a merchant, but I didn't want to delete this handle with its now substantial gallery. There doesn't seem to be a way to just change your handle on the My Profile screen.

Spike ( ) posted Fri, 14 January 2005 at 11:41 PM

"It's just that he was told privately that one of the reasons for the banning was multiple accounts. " If he opened up a clone account while on a ban, yes, that would be true, But we would never ban a member for just having two or more accounts. Anyway, sounds like it was for something else....

Khai ( ) posted Fri, 14 January 2005 at 11:51 PM

if the average user has more than 1 account.. say the 4 quoted.. that means the user base total oft quoted for sales reasons or look how big a community we are reasons is infact meaningless...

XENOPHONZ ( ) posted Sat, 15 January 2005 at 12:18 AM

"Meaningless" is a strong word. "Reduced" or "limited" I might accept.

In either case, it's not a matter which particularly concerns me. I like the things that I buy here. And I appreciate the information that I glean here.

Beyond that, others can take their own choices.

Besides which -- the traffic rates here are not meaningless.

In spite of the many dire predictions that I've heard over the years concerning Renderosity's impending decline/demise -- the site still persists.

Personally, I am glad about that fact. Things could become quite boring without RR to keep me entertained daily.

Xenophonz, what do you mean? the figures quoted are incorrect, by what factor we don't know. this renders any statement like "we have 300,000 users! and we're still growing!" useless since the figure is incorrect. reduced or limited has no meaning on this. incorrect is incorrect. those figures are used to attract merchants. you may not sell here but others do. in other words thank you for your input, it's nice but has no bearing on the case.

XENOPHONZ ( ) posted Sat, 15 January 2005 at 10:10 AM

I was unaware of the fact that a "case" existed.

sigh I suppose that now I've got to go hire a lawyer. Oh, well..........

you may not sell here but others do.

No, I don't sell anything here. I just buy stuff. A lot of stuff.

in other words thank you for your input

Likewise.

I for one would like to know how exactly you get an account closed here. ex: Say you want to change your id, avatar, gallery, even products etc.... How do you close the old account once the new one is created?
