Subject: Can anyone help me make a Seam guide

Rollike ( ) posted Sat, 15 January 2005 at 6:59 PM · edited Thu, 09 January 2025 at 7:54 AM

Hello.. I am making my very first figure, with morphs, texture and so on. I am trying to make a seamguide in UV mapper.. and I've figured it all out. The only thing i need to figure out what seams i have to put together on each image, because all the seams is at the same image when i open the OBJ file in uvmapper. So far i've figuret out that it it normal to put the body and hands on the same sheet. Here is the list og seam items, so if anyone can sort them for me it would be just so helpful! Eyebrows Eyelashes Eyesocket Fingernails Gums Innermouth Lacrimal Lcornea LEyewhite Lips LIris LPupil Nipples Nostrils Pubichair Rcornea REyewhite Riris Rpupil Skinarm Skinfeet Skinforarm Skinhand Skinhead Skinhip Skinleg Skinneck Skinscalp Skintorso Teeth thanks in advance Mette Toenails Tounge

All the head parts go on one template and the rest go on the other template.

Sorry... to ask again.. When i try that the teeth is placed on the head... My other problem is that i am not sure what all the things are, because i just know the most common words in english :-) Thanks in advance Mette

Hmmm.
To me (but perhaps that's just me) this list doesn't necessarily look like a completely new figure. It looks as if it was Unimesh mapping - ike V3 or M3 or S3petite.

In that case, the following parts belong 'together' (But you could also have seen that by looking at the (very good!) seamguides by SnowSultan for these figures):

Bodymat:
Nipples
Skinarm
Skinfeet
Skinforarm
Skinhand
Skinhip
Skinleg
Skinneck
Skintorso
Fingernails
Toenails

Headmat:
Eyesocket
Lips
Innermouth
Lacrimal
Nostrils
Skinscalp
Skinhead
Tounge

Eyebrows / lashes / pubic:
Eyebrows
Eyelashes
Pubichair

Gums & teeth:
Gums
Teeth

Eyes (Left side and right side can be seperated):
LEyewhite
LIris
LPupil
REyewhite
Riris
Rpupil

And the Corneas (which usually don't have a map, but certain values of transparency and reflection):
Lcornea
Rcornea

But as I have said - these are the 'mapping values' for the Unimesh figures. Some, like 'TheGirlv3' also have some more parts - but to me the above list looks like V3, not an own character....

Hello... Thank you so very much :-))))) I can not use the seamguides from snowsultan if i have changes some of the dials, can I? It is V3 that i have taken over in UV Mappe... :-) I need the seams to decorate the texture :-) It is not my own figure.. sorry if i mess up the words :-) It's because i get a bit confused when writing english :-) well, what i am trying to do is make en texture with bodymorphs from V3 like i see a lot of people has done her at Rsity... Now I am just wondering if I am dooing anythin illeagal? Please correct me if I am :-)))) Thanks Mette

I can not use the seamguides from snowsultan if i have changes some of the dials, can I? Sure you can. The dials don't change the vertices in the figure, they just change their placement. However, the mapping will remain the same. No matter which character pack for V3 you see in the market place - they all use the same mapping; no matter if they look young or old or thin or fat or whatever... I know it's difficult to understand in the beginning, but for example a V3 with eyes closed uses the same mapping as one with open eyes, even if the seamguide 'looks' as if the eyes were open all the time. You have to squeeze the look of a 'closed eye' into the tiny space above the 'opened eye' on the seamguide. Once you've found out how it really works, however, it's OK to work with. Now I am just wondering if I am dooing anythin illeagal? No, you're just wanting to do more work then necessary... Strong suggestion from me: Learn about how mapping, the object, morphs, dials, MATS, Poses and so on play together before creating a new character, otherwise you will face big problems (or misunderstandings, as in this case) before you've finished your character ;-)

Oh, and P.S.: An own character is something different then an own figure. An own character is, basically, a modification of an existing figure, may it be V3 or M3 or any other; may it be by morphing, mapping, transmapping or anything likely. An own figure, however, is something that you've entirely modeled as a 3D object in a program suitable for this (like Wings, 3DSMax or likely), and which you then have transported to Poser, 'boned' it and so on....

Thank you very much... now i think I understand it all :-)))) I believe the best way to learn is to play, I'll just have to learn from my mistakes! G Thanks again, you've been a very big help :-) Mette

Yu're very welcome... you know, I have not been born with that knowledge either, and instead of playing around for six years, I could have well spared some time if I would have asked and someone would have explained it to me ;-) And I don't see why I should not help other people to spare that time...

I agree you should learn as much about poser and uvmapping etc before making your own characters etc. Some people seem to want to start using poser and immediately start making characters and clothes etc, before they even know how poser works. (I am not accusing rollike of doing that, this is just for any beginners reading this thread.)

Rollike ( ) posted Sun, 16 January 2005 at 1:43 PM

LOL Ohh it is alright to accuse me of that... i've got fire in my but (can i say that in english.. well in danihs we use that saying) and can't wait to try it all out! :-) I am just so nosy that i have to put my nose into everything right away! :-))))) you are not the first one to tell me to take i easy! LOOOOL Mette
