why do i feel the toothpick is wrongly placed, even if I know I speared the cherry properly? (martini by Anders Lejczak)

That's refraction for you. Looks about right to me.

It's a straight on view and without any visual reference for the edge of the glass on that side, your brain assumes the toothpick is resting against the visual edge of the glass. (Where the refracted toothpick is) This is one of them times where the being correct doesn't look right.
