Hi Heidi, The Poser Forum FAQ should help with this question - it's the very first item. Hope that helps, Karen :-) Poser Mod

Also, you'll probably want MacConverter and MacInstaller. They are free utilities from MartinC (work under Classic mode) that make our lives much easier.

Hallo! I have a problem with my downloads I dont know what program I should use to open the files. This the files that Ive downloded: Dazs V3 MorphBoots, NWS hairkit Base. Can somebody help me? Thanx!

KarenJ ( ) posted Thu, 13 January 2005 at 4:06 PM

Hello Caydee, Where did you download these files from? The only V3 boots I know of at Daz are not free items. Did you purchase this item from Daz? I am not familiar with the other item. Where did that come from?

Any file from DAZ comes in the form of an .exe installer which automatically puts the content in your Poser program. To use any files, free or purchased, you must own Poser 4/Artist or Poser 5, which can be purchased at Curious Labs. Or, you can download the free beta version of Daz Studio from www.daz3d.com - their base figures M3 and V3 are free to download, so it's a great time to begin getting into 3D :-) I feel should point out that Renderosity has a zero tolerance for illegal software use, as I am still unsure how/where you have obtained these files: *Renderosity maintains a Zero Tolerance on certain behaviors within the community. You can get a fine free zip program from the URL above, which will open several types of file, including, I think, rar files.

Caydee, is it possible that you have downloaded a texture set for those boots? Because if what you downloaded is a *.zip file, then it can't be the boots by DAZ - as Karen already said, these come as *.exe files. May I ask where you downloaded what you downloaded and what the exact name and description was?

caydee ( ) posted Mon, 17 January 2005 at 3:30 PM

I cant remeber the name of the site but Ive downloaded a free program and I tried to open it but nothing happend. so maybe its just a file with pic. I went to many sites to download free items.

caydee ( ) posted Mon, 17 January 2005 at 3:54 PM

Anyway... all I know is that I followed a link from Your Own website to another and so on, to get to the download site for the file I was after... I didn't know the file I was after is something you have to pay for and I'm sorry for the inconvenience but no damage is done because the file I downloaded was a zip file that didn't work! I will of course in the future follow the guidelines for downloading files....

spothmann ( ) posted Mon, 17 January 2005 at 4:32 PM

all I know is that I followed a link from Your Own website From whose own website? From here - Renderosity - or which?

KarenJ ( ) posted Tue, 18 January 2005 at 1:23 AM

Karen, I think you perhaps misinterpret the story. Here's what I think what happened: Caydee came to Renderosity, looked up the Freestuff, found a texture for the boots believing those are the boots, followed the link in freestuff, downloaded that boots texture package from that site (which, as you certainly know, can also be included as a site link in the freestuff instead of a direct *.zip link) - and that was basically it. Matching the story is a file in freestuff called "DAZ MorphBoots to V3" by Netherworks, which then leads to his site. We could know more if she would finally manage to open the *.zip file, because I'm almost certain there's a readme within that file. However, there are two things bothering me here about that story. First, no one in the world able to turn on a computer, surf the net and operate certain programs has never heard of a *.zip file. I am sorry, but that part of the story is unbelievable. The second thing is that if you compare what I have written above about what could have happened with what Caydee wrote, then you could get the impression my guess was right. And I am, honestly, a bit surprised that it seems as if no one (me included!) went to the free stuff until now to look up "MorphBoots". Instead, a crowd of "Warez! Warez!" shouting, pitchfork waving people appears and shys away the newbie. But of course, that's all just my opinion and a possibility about what could have happened.

KarenJ ( ) posted Tue, 18 January 2005 at 6:48 AM

Yes, I think it was either a MAT file or conversion file... that's why I asked where from, if it's in freestuff and doesn't work then I need to clean it up :-) But above all I think what we're dealing with here is a language barrier - which is why I try not to jump to conclusions on an international site such as this :-)

A Mac user might not know about zip files. However, a Mac user would almost certainly have Stuffit's tools, and just dropping the file on Expander would open it no matter if it was .zip, .sit, .rar or whatever.

Now a bad zip will be empty when it opens because it is missing a piece of data, or the transmission will be interrupted, or a gremlin on the hyperlink chewed on a packet before spitting it out. I've got a few bad zips... and those you should know about. I may have stashed them in a folder for prying open later. Stuffit used to be from Aladdin, but they changed their name to allume... and are the distributers for Poser. You can get the expander free.
