Subject: HELP!!!!!!!!

Trinity7 ( ) posted Thu, 20 January 2005 at 1:47 AM · edited Wed, 20 November 2024 at 10:17 AM

I am and am not new to poser. I was learning it and getting pretty good when I ran into some mishaps and lost my computer. Now after 3 years away from poser and every other graphic program I knew, I am learning it all over again....will someone please tell me how to extract my character texture files so that they render correctly.

Thanx to all
Trinity

I think we need a little more info before we can help you. Specifically, are you using Poser 4, Poser 4 with Pro Pack, or Poser 5? Also, be a little more specific about what you're trying to do. Do you have textures on old models that are not rendering correctly, or do you have textures on old models that you would like to apply to new work? By the way, textures are stored in a separate textures library/folder. That's the first place you should look. Oh, and welcome back to Poser!

Hmmm, Poser 4, eh? Let's see if I can remember that far back ;-) Are these stock Characters Like Michael 2 and Vicki 2, or custom creations of your own? In either case, the problem seems to be that the textures are not mapped properly to the figure. Try this: 1) Extract your textures to a sub-folder in the Textures directory. It really doesn't matter where, just as long as you know where they all are. 2) Open the character file. 3) Click on the figure and then make certain that you have the entire Body selected (the two lists under the document window can be used for this, as can the Info pallet). 4) Once you know you have the body selected, go to the Materials Menu and use that to "map" the textures to the body (CTRL+M, or under the Render menu). I hope this helps. If not, try posting a sample of the figure that isn't taking the texture. That might help me figure out what's going on. By the way, there is a bunch of stuff you can do by editing the CR2 file to fix misplaced maps, but I'm not qualified to help you with that ;-) Good luck.

Misplaced texture maps are easily solved by CorrrectReference (hogsoft). There's a free version and a Pro version. I've got the free one, and it does its job very well. Standard procedure when installing an item: - unzip/install; - move new folders to the right places (sometimes needed under P4, not every item has the correct file structure in its installer/zip file) - move new texture folders to a subfolder of :Runtime:textures (if needed); - run CorrectReference on the new items. You might have to run an updater to the Poser 4 program; it tends to behave strange when you have a decent amount of RAM in your machine. Hope this helps, Steven.

Thanks Steven -- I'm not familiar with this app so I'll check it out. Here's the link to their site: http://www.hogsoft.com/
