Subject: Crosstalk in P5 any fix for the fix?

iamonk ( ) posted Thu, 20 January 2005 at 7:22 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 10:17 PM

I know they fixed the crosstalk problem in P5, but what about when you use something that relies on it? I've tried the copy/paste thing, works for some things. I seem to have the most trouble with The Girl. Thanks in advance Mark

You mean like clothing JCM? ;-) There is some information in the Poserpros thread above, and a link to a zip that has what I call "Figure Reassignment Poses" intended for the GIRL, see if they help.

This is what I do:-

  • I set up the clothing with all the indices as ":1" and the figure as "Figure 1".
  • All the JCM,s, PBM's etc are set to trigger on "Figure 1".
  • Next I load the base figure into a new scene.
  • Follow this with the clothing.
  • Conform the clothing to the figure.
  • Save the clothing only, to the figure library. This will now make all the clothing indices ":2" but the JCM lines will retain the required ":1" and "Figure 1"

That works for me.

To use:-

First load the base figure into a new scene. Follow this with the clothing. Conform the clothing to the figure. Now when you set the base figure's BODY morphs the clothing morphs will follow.philc_agatha_white_on_black.jpg

Bookmarked!

Jim, yes I believe it's the JCM's that are giving me the poke through. I'll have to dig around for my log in info for the link. Phil, I think I see what you are saying here. I understand crosstalk basics, but never played around with it. I've picked and poked at the files already but never did a full autopsy. I'll be giving your suggestion a try and see if I can get a better understanding of it. Thanks Mark

IMHO -- for me, the easiest solution is the first choice.

I don't mean to insult anyone's intelligence: but I usually deal with the poke-through problem simply by making body parts invisible -- wherever possible.

And if turning off body parts isn't possible for some reason, then (also IMHO) -- Photoshop postworking is usually easier and quicker than hacking a .cr2 file.

I would hack a file only when there is no other workable option. I'm lazy that way.

XENOPHONZ I would have to agree laziness leaves time for other things. The easiest solution is usually MY first choice. I have turned parts off, made quicky transmaps, even rendered twice(bodypart on/bodypart off) and spliced them together in PSP. For me, easy works, but easiest is just hitting "conform to". Poser isn't as quick as it could be if you add up all the time spent fixing this and that. Mark

Poser isn't as quick as it could be if you add up all the time spent fixing this and that.

How true.

That's one of the major drawbacks of Poser. It's extremely time consuming. No matter how fast your computer, Poser only allows just so much speed........

Besides, in my experience, the "Make Art" button never works right, anyway. Perhaps CL will address this problem in P6.

iamonk:

I don't know if you like to run python scripts, but I wrote one based on Jim Burton's PoserPros thread mentioned above. (It's for P5, Windows only.) The idea was to let python instead of the user track the figure numbers and such.

Script is called OpenCT (for Open CrossTalk), and it's initially set up for V3, M3, D3 and S3. There's a second script to add characters like the Girl.

Though really, making things invisible is much easier :)

XENOPHONZ: Your wish has come true. Here is the new Poser 6 interface with make art button. Compliments of "Stewer".

I don't mind running scripts, as long as I don't get a blue screen that says "Windows has just attempted to stick it's head up it's ass and accidently suffocated itself".
I'll look it over.

"Make Art" button? Haven't found that one.
Found the "Choke", "Stumble", "Confuse", "Lock Up", "Pause Indefinately", and "Keel Over and Die".
It seemed to fart once, maybe it's next to whatever button I pressed to get it to do that?
"Make Art", huh?
And here I've been trying to do it manually.
Just like me to do it the hard way.

Thanks

Have you looked at Hogsoft's Crosstalker? It's free at his website www.hogsoft.com. I think it does all that you want - select which figures' FBM/JCP controls/doesn't control other figures. No editing, no scripts to run directly. And if it doesn't met your needs I suspect that Howard will listen to contructive ideas - several have alreay been incorporated. And like all recent Hogsoft utilities the UI is super clean and straightforward, and works with PPP & P5 via Python, and P4 via P4PyE. Windows-only though.

Just adding one more alternative way : ockham has a very good & simple python script at free stuff to keep/prevent crosstalks

LawnDartLawnDart -- yes, I saw that one in the other thread. But there's a problem: that looks like a Mac interface. I question whether it'll work on my PC. In fact, according to every Mac partisan that I've ever talked to -- with a Mac, the "Make Art" function is built directly into the operating system of the machine. You don't even need for programs such as Poser to offer the "Make Art" function as a separate program item. It's already inherent to the OS. According to what I've heard, owning a Mac guarantees that all of one's 3D art will be poetry for the eye. Without requiring any real effort on the part of the artist. You know.....I've taken classes on a Mac in the recent past. I couldn't find the "Make Art" function anywhere. It seemed to elude me. For some reason, the top echelon of visual art always seems to elude me. Perhaps I should buy a Mac. That way, I'll be in with the in crowd. I've wanted to be in with the in crowd ever since I was a little kid. I am beginning to wonder if this "Make Art" thing is all just some sort of a cruel joke? Man, does that get me upset...........

I'm afraid I don't have anything useful to contribute (Jim already posted the link I'd send ya to. ;) ), but I just have to say that this quote is officially my Little Slice of Sunshine for the day.
