Hi, I've decided to be extremely respectful and informative after reading the "Fix This" thread from a few days ago... So after killing P5 and waxing nostalgic with ProPack so I can take advantage of Max 3.1 for rendering, I'm kinda having issues with ProPacks UI... I really miss the little arrow at the top of each library and the fact that all the folder names get truncated to being almost unreadable is killing me!!! It would be like a guessing game if I wasn't so used to the order from how it was in P5. I remember talk here a while ago about a P4 UI hack or something like that... I really hope I can change it... after a couple years using P5, this is kinda weird now being back in ProPack... Thanks all!!! LAter! G

There's no real fix for it (other than P5). It'll happen whenever you have too many folders. Either consolidate some folders to reduce their number, or relocate some stuff to the camera and hand folders. hogwarden's PBooost utility in the Marketplace can give you library-management features not normally found in Pro Pack.

I guess PBoost is the only way to go... Thanks!! PBoost sounds like something you'd take if your prostate was inflamed! Urgh....... No offense to Hogwarden there... I just have a really bad sensse of humor.

EDIT: When you say consolidate some folders do you mean I can just drag a bunch into a few and that will reduce the overhead? I have 414 folders in my Pose folder... What's the limit? If I could create new folders and say put all Mat Poses in it and a new folder for "Pose" Poses etc... etc... etc...

If it's as easy as that then that would be swell!!!

Later!

G

The limit is about 256 folders, but the practical limit (where the folder names start shrinking) is much lower. Pro Pack's library doesn't have support for subfolders, by the way. And there's also a limit to how many files you can have in each folder. Starting to regret the downgrade yet?

"Starting to regret the downgrade yet?" Sorta... but the being able to render in max again is SWEET!! Just having a go with it right now!! I suppose I could always downsize my runtime... I have a whole slew of stuff that's never used... And I still installed it all yesterday anyway... Thanks eh! G

I know of a number of people who were rather bitter about the P5 hosting plugins being sold separately. Have you considered the possibility of doing most of your work in P5, saving a scene file, and then opening that in Pro Pack for hosting/rendering in Max?

Will the PPP open files made in P5? I asked about that a while back (so I can render in Lightwave) and got the impression that it wouldn't work.

Before they made me they broke the mold!

I seem to remember trying that when I had both P5 and PP installed... It was like two years ago and all I remember was it didn't work. I suppose I'll try some Runtime general housecleaning first... I have too much stuff installed that makes me think "Why'd I buy that? Why'd I download that freebie?" If I can't clean up enough then I'll try PBoost, incedentaly in my Pose library (414 folders) I cant access anything past the "D"s in it!

Will the PPP open files made in P5? Yes. Even if you're using P5-specific features like procedural textures or dynamic cloth and hair. Those elements won't function in Pro Pack, of course, but otherwise the file should still open. Just make certain everything you're using in the scene (textures, figures, geometry) is installed in Pro Pack's runtime, or has absolute filepaths so that Poser can find it.
