Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 03 10:43 am)
Finally, someone is getting some sense :-)
Artwork and 3DToons items, create the perfect place for you toon and other figures!

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(
Food for thought.....

Hey Wolf, I did not buy the Girl, but me too I have several items (let us limit ourselves to Poser stuff or it becomes embarrassing) that I wonder why I bought them, or that have realy silly texturemaps or bodymaps and some transparancy instead of geometry.
That's life... I expect a lot from Seraphira's Kaimira though... http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=12413&Form.ShowMessage=2081253

I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now I'll be mad. (Rumi)
The mesh has a very definite style, no doubt about it, and I think the challenge comes in that, as you point out, the style doesnt automatically lend itself to the cookie-cutter variety of things usually associated with the V and S meshes. Instead of working with the mesh's style and creating a separate world in which it's a comfortable fit, most Poser users think you can automatically take Garment A and use it on any character mesh, even though it's an awkward fit at best most times. I dont have the GIRL, but I can see how the character could have great possibility, if worked with properly. Within that style genre, I happen to prefer Neftis' Neftoon, a model that IMHO corrects some of the stylistic errors in the GIRL. But the GIRL could be great fun if pushed in the right direction.

"Ahhhhhg!!!! that stupid BIG head!!!"
I'm not sure if you know or not, but the head can be scaled down to a smaller size. The trick is, you scale the head down to say 80%, and then you must scale the neck to 80% also, which brings the seperated jaw joint with it evenly. You could play with overall scale, or XYZ seperately. Works fairly decent at getting rid of the "mongoloid" look. Also, the 'Grrrl' morphs pack combined with that can do wonders for the head. ;-) I think GIRL is rather boring without those added morphs. Message edited on: 01/25/2005 09:38

The GIRL is a cartoon figure like nickelodeon's Jimmy Nutron which share the same look Big Head, Big Hands, Big Feet, I see GIRL as more of a true cartoon character not a faux real character I see her more in the toonimal sytle of renders She would be a better fit with the Daz's toonimals, Neftoon Gal/Pal Sara, Stacy rather then with Vicky, Mike, Steph, David and the crew
You might as well PAY attention, because you can't afford FREE speech
The only thing that makes the Girl the least bit tempting to me is Laura's "Boopsie" morph pack. You could really do a variety of cartoon characters and caricatures with that, and they'd look a lot toony-er than anything you could do with V3 or M3.
The only problem is clothing. I wouldn't be able to dress her, especially with the male morphs (which are the ones I'd be most interested in). So my hard drive remains Girl-free. :-)
I passed on the G.I.R.L as well. I'm very anti-toon usually. That said, I agree with Sean that Neftoon Gal/Pal are much more toonish and "pretty" compared to GIRL. I have both in my Wishlist here....as I haven't found a "need" yet. Plus the clothes are very limited. Does anyone know if regular Mike/David/Vic clothes will fit the above mentioned???? Obviously with some tweaking/scaling.
Sorry to disagree, but I got the The Girl and have used her in several of the strips I have done. She is the start on a site, which I ain't suppose to mention here, TOS, and has been in several other strips as well. I think that she is great for cartoon type as well as some other things as well. With the various morph packages you can do a lot with her and her facial expressions seem to me to be a bit more real at times than various vickies. It really is a matter of style and content when you use the Girl. Thanks Butch
Fsck! I HATE it when I agree w/ Sean!
"Within that style genre, I happen to prefer Neftis' Neftoon, a model that IMHO corrects some of the stylistic errors in the GIRL. "
Same story here... Neftoon has that particular genre down cold. Alexa (3D Commune's shot at it) is a mesh I like as well.
I think the parts of GIRL that kept me away from buying it is the torso shape and those monster-sized feet.
All three of these figures (Neftoon, Alexa, GIRL) are pretty limited to the extent that you can't make them look like someone else entirely (at leastwithout putting in long hours of work and a decent modelling program...) If I'm going to shell out cash for a stylized figure, it's going to have to look right from the start.

I kind of chuckle when someone buys a product with out analyzing what is there before there eyes. The Girl is as plain as day what she is. I don't have her but am very seriously thinking of buying her. She is not and will not be in the Vicky and Mike class of Charitures. That makes her a specialty in the cartoon class along with other charitures that are in the cartoon class. The biggest weakness is there are no other charitures made for her (like a guy), Now if you don't like the way she looks that is a different matter and of personal taste. I don't like cartoon figures either as a rule, but there is a time and a place where they work better than a Realistic figure. This is when you want to exaggerate a point, which is what cartooning is all about.
They struck with the GIRL while the iron was hot; the money has been made off of her. It was a good business decision for all concerned. I can't blame them.
But now -- like all hyped-up fads, she'll most likely fade away......
I just hope that it's sooner rather than later.
I don't exactly find the Girl child-like, but she does remind me of the recent Disney princesses (Belle, Ariel, Jasmine, etc.). It's just a little too recognizable for me. Might be fun to use once or twice, but I can't imagine using her enough to justify the price, because she always looks the same.
Boopsie makes her a lot more appealing, except since they are third-party morphs, they aren't included in the Girl's clothes. So you're stuck with that pinup body, no matter what you do to the face. At least if you want your characters to be dressed. :-)

For those who don't know ... well, I don't have time at the moment to explain the whole Creepy Clown mythos and history, but in the meantime, you can check out the large site that his creator, the late, great Don Tatro created. He'd updated it not too long before his passing, his wife is keeping the site up for now. Don enjoyed making props for his exquisitely imaginative, highly original, and frequently stunning renders in Wings3D, and was happy to share them with anyone who asked.A huge number of them exist at the site, ready for you to download. I'm sure his memory would be honored by your use of them ... they're mostly simple .obj models, but well made, easily textured, and very useful.
In brief, yes, Creepy was originally a static model created for the Bryce newsgroup. He instantly took on a life of his own, and was Poser-ized with help from badco and ... help me out here, I can't remember the third party ... was it Chevy? Dreamweaver? I don't remember, sorry.
Anyway, if you download Creepy, watch out. He will take over your life in strange ways, and will be hitting on all the babes in your Poser directories. Oddly enough, the women seem to love it, which is why you'll sometimes witness men muttering "damn clown!" :-)
Oh, yeah. GIRL. wolf359, you are absolved. Now go and sin no more. What happened to that character is precisely what its creator openly feared when originally asked to share it, althoug it's obviously turned out to be a cash cow for he, DAZ, and some brokered content creators. To this day, in my humble opinion, Kim Goosens' pre-Poserization renders of the character remain the most charming. But then, one must accept that Poser is different things to different people. The "Barbie" crowd is here to stay, and woe be unto those who "bash" the dollies! :-)

Actually, I plan to make the GIRL a major character in a full length movie that I'm working on. Keep in mind that you won't see any results for at least another 6 months as I'm writing the story right now. The plan is to make her be a hallucination for another character. In reality, her real character will be a StephPetite build. However, the main character(a V3 morph) will see her as the GIRL. It's all part of the story... a person who has serious problems with grasping reality. Sound cool? I hope so!

"Are there morphs included to reduce her hands/feet size (as there are in the Freak for instance) ?" Not included, but if you get the "Grrrl" morph/character package (at Daz), it does have injections to make her hands and feet smaller.

THis is NOT a rant or an anti DAZ thing either. just more of public admission of being guilty of allowing myself to be caught up in Hype, that I am largely resonsible for starting. After all it was ME who first posted images of the GIRL in the poser forum over a year ago in a thread called "the koshini effect". from there the clamour began. Again NO offense to DAZ or goosens but as a fan of Sci fi and Idealized Adult Pinups (see my gallery) So.......WHY did i buy this thing????!!!!. Ive looked through the galleries trying to find some inspiration to use her and in EVERY render ive seen she looks well........RIDICULOUS :-) dress her up in black leather like "trinity" from "the matrix" and put 2 big pistols in her hands and a snarl on her face and she looks just plain GOOFY. put her in a "sultry" pinup pose wearing a "sexy" outfit or Nekkid and she looks so silly its embarrassing!!! Ahhhhhg!!!! that stupid BIG head!!!! This really hit home with me as i loaded the GIRL recently into P5 with the intention of exporting her toCinema4D 8.5, via the new interposer plugin, for my first serious render with her. I stared at her for 45 minutes and nothing. IM not complaining or claiming i somehow got "ripped off" The GIRL is everything Daz promised and everything idont need.... LESSON LEARNED :-/
