Subject: Hot20 Discussions FYI - plz readme

Rules of thumb; We're not going to allow posts about the Hot20 that specify relate to another members' art or screenname directly, because; *It will ALWAYS lead to heated emotions one way or another, on one side or another. *It HAS lead to (in the past) people leaving Renderosity, or emotions running high enough, good members end up getting warned, temp banned, etc. (and I hate that). *It sounds cheesy, but its just not nice. *If you don't care for this...feel free to yell at me personally, it's my own decision for our Forum. (based upon our past experiences) *YET...feel free to talk about the Hot20 in general, how you like it, don't like it, etc. Especially on suggestions for improvement. Me and Zhann are not here to censor your discussions. Just the attacks. --------- Also; *If you feel that there is an image that violates TOS, please contact me or Zhann and we will get opinions from the staff about it. Thanks everybody, Zhann and I appreciate all you Brycers, and the cool forum you (almost always) keep, lol. ;oD AgentSmith Bryce Moderator

Sound like good rules to me :)

Come visit us at RenderGods.

Ignore the shooty dog thing.

draculaz ( ) posted Wed, 26 January 2005 at 7:30 AM

YES! definetely good rules. perhaps a more comprehensive FAQ would be in order: q: my image didn't make it into the hot20 a: bla bla bla q: did you see the bastard who made it in the hot20? he doesn't deserve to be there, etc. a: bla bla bla q: can you tell me how to do something a: look for tuts about it, then come here and ask us. of course, nicely. drac

AgentSmith ( ) posted Wed, 26 January 2005 at 7:37 AM

Rofl...drac. Yeah, Hot20 is far from perfect, basically beacuse...it isn't, and because we all have varying levels of what we think perfect is, lol. (there are things we would all like to do to change it) *Btw, look out for an added "area" to our Bryce home here at Renderosity, hopefully before the new month. It is something Zhann and I hope will "round out" (and help) the Bryce Hot20. More later as we work on it. AS

I never really understood the hubbub concerning the H20. As long as you allow voting by peers, like (enter name of your country here) Idol,, it becomes a popularity contest and not an exercise in artistic appreciation or talent. For me the H20 represents nothing at all, and I rarely visit it. In fact the only times I have is when a heated thread about it is posted.

For me there are only 2 rules about the Hot20. 1. It's a good thing when I've got an image in there (like now :^) ) 2. It's a bad thing when I don't (most of the time). J/K :^)

This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

I like the bulk of the current hot20. Even voted for a lot of them. Especially like Englewolf's. And I've got one in there too, so all is right with the universe.

My suggestion for the H20 is to add an Opt-In button when you upload an image. If you do NOT check it, you dont have the VOTE button on that image. I said it a hundred times before and I am saying it again. I would like the option to participate in the H20. I have the option for rankings and comments. It only follows to let the artist have the option to NOT be part of the H20 sham. My 2 cents. -B

Erlik ( ) posted Wed, 26 January 2005 at 1:57 PM

Ummm, I know you've got your hands full, but could you update the header a bit? It's abit too long even for me, and I have a screen 1200 pixels high. Like, do we need the spotlight link? Or Monthly challenge general rules when they can be repeated in the first post of the monhtly challenge? Or do we still need the DAZ links? That model thread is also not needed (IMO), cause you can put it into the FAQ and people can ask in separate posts. And when did somebody upload a new banner? That would be nine-ten table rows less. Apropos Hot20, it's interesting how widely spread programs like Poser and Bryce make it a popularity contest, while higher-end programs like Cinema or Max don't. Or at least not nearly as much.

drawbridgep ( ) posted Wed, 26 January 2005 at 2:28 PM

I'd like to expand on striving's idea and have an option that removes all trace of the Hot20. Then if you want to vote on pictures and check the hot20, you can. And for the rest of us, it's just like it never existed.

IMO people are taking the Hot20 way to seriously. It's merely a device to encourage good Bryce artwork.

Kemal ( ) posted Wed, 26 January 2005 at 4:14 PM

Hey AS, will you be so nice to also put somewhere link for Bryce update patches at Corel, cuz they are still alive and kickin' !!! Thanks :D

Stephen Ray ( ) posted Wed, 26 January 2005 at 7:09 PM

I'm not sure how the Hot 20 completely works. But I can suggest away to improve it. Most all the old time Brycers remember the Bryce Forum Gallery, they had a judging panel in place who would choose the select gallery winners. I suggest a rotating panel of judges who would review the top 50 rated images weekly/BI-weekly/monthly or what ever. The judges will rate the images from 0 ( worst ) to 5 ( best ) the top 20 will then be the images that first were rated best 50 by all members, then selected by the best ratings from the panel of judges. Of course a new panel of judges will be selected monthly or BI-monthly. This will insure that someone can not set up multi screen names and vote their own image into the Hot 20 or some one and all their buddies vote their image into the Hot 20. Criteria to be a judge can be set-up Example : Bryce forum member for 6 or 12 months, or previous Hot 20 artist. ect.... I'm sure there are many members here who would feel it to be an honor to be a judge. What do you mods & members think?

I think we should also start an ANTI-Top 20 where we can post and comment on the worst of Renderosity! I am sure there would be plenty of poser crap in there though. Maybe a critiques corner hehe hmmm not a bad idea maybe slow down the daily barrage of lame nude posettes. Course I could not handle this load on my own as there seems to be much garbage these days and would need some help Hey Drac you up for it?

That's really what that page is supposed to be for anyway. Yeah, it's crowded up there, I'll sort it out, want to get that done also before the start of the new month, along with that other thing....;o) AS

Btw, just to be clear, this is something Zhann and I will be doing for the Brycers, this is not a Renderosity site-wide thing. In fact our bosses don't even know about it yet. But hey...better to ask forgiveness than permission. AS
