THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Thought I'd let my PC chew over this one.

Since I'm not using the PC much and not playing in Bryce, I thought I'd let the computer render a picture on premium with every setting on I could think of. Not sure what blurry transmission are, but hey, it's an option. Almost 10 hour render rather than an hour. This is Bryce's DOF so I took the rays up to 144. Certainly seems to help.

Fantastic work Phil, There is only one slight spoiler - the faceting on the top front section of roof. Interesting about DOF, when using Bryce DoF I tend to stick to lower rays but a bigger resolution, then drop the res in photoshop for a better effect, just seems to take less time then upping the rays.

I was torn about the faceting. Wondering if the toy or indeed a real one would have been smooth or panel beaten. Interesting idea about the res and downsizing. Might have to test that.

Hey i just noticed something else with that model. It has a flat tire ;)

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

I posted this on CGTalk and you know how they LOVE to nitpick over there. Especially Bryce pictures. Sigh.

Well worth the time and effort. And dont worry about CGtalkers, they nitpick on everything.(except if your name is Feng Zhu, in which case you can post a default sphere and get 5 stars from everyone) :)

I've seen them nitpick on yours too. Which was actually helpful. If they can find things "wrong" with a Rochr pic, then I can't be too upset with things they comment about mine.

Havent made a flawless image yet, and probably never will. :) Yeah, most of the people there are just trying to help out, and usually come with some really good points.

I used to have Blurry Transmissions, but it had nothing to do with Bryce,..........nice render though. Wonder what this thing(Traction Engine)would look like smashed with a hammer ? How's your back doing ?

Back's doing good thanks. Dull ache first thing, but nothing bad and walked about a mile. Which was stupid, since it's only 20 degrees out.

Very nice render and model. I notice you frequently use the same wooden texture as a tabletop/floor. Its very nice, care to share it?

Attached Link: 300k JPEG of my wife's chest

It's a picture of my wife's magnificent chest, which I saw on my first trip out here and was eager to get a photograph of.

OK, let me rephrase that. There is a magnificent chest belonging to my wife....er.... My wife owns a large old wooden box and the surface is old and worn, with scratches and burns and has a great texture. I use it for pretty much everything that needs a tabletop or wooden floor. And now I share with those who want it.

ROTFLMAO!!!!

You're rephrasing is even funnier. Yeah, my wife has an old wooden box that's worn with scratches too. I just use it for one thing. I've tried sharing it with others, but no one seems to want it 'cept me.

Thanks for the link ;-)

Lol @ Bandolin, you are one sick puppy, hehe !!! :P Nice rendering, Phil, faceting is lil' bit stronger on the roof, but i'm sure U gonna fix that one, 10 hours of rendering is really not that long, how about 5 weeks ? I had those before... :(

Whaaat... I'm innocent. I don't know what you guys are talking about. I was referring to my wife's old cigar box. I only use it for one thing cigars. I've tried sharing it, but none of my friends smoke.

Nice to see real DOF. Really an exquisite render. Blurry transmissions is like blurry reflections but for transmissions on transparent/transluscent objects, they call it sub surface scattering: http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=1915370 http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=1915757

Aldaron ( ) posted Thu, 27 January 2005 at 8:52 PM

BTW since it was missed. Blurry transmissions determine how much blur is added in transparent objects. Since you have none in the render it had no effect. Great render!

Incarnadine ( ) posted Thu, 27 January 2005 at 11:15 PM

Not sure if you could call blurry transmissions subsurface scattering. SSS is usually used in conjunction with translucent materials whereas blurry transmissions are more associated with transparent materials.

Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!
