Hi folks, should I reveal the mystery how it's done? :-) Jimi

I've got some theories from a few Bryster pics, but please share!

The stair to the the left of the back landing isn't actually connected to it, it's in front?

Haloedrain got 100.000 points! :-) It's all about the right angle to watch at it.

i just tried to do a quick mock-up in wings, given that two of the sides have only 3 stairs each, i figure it's a POV trick. i couldn't exactly duplicate it since i made it all out of one cube. if it's not that, then it has to be different angles. like those places where the car supposedly goes uphill if you turn off the engine (even though you're going downhill and the surrounding countryside fools you). so yeah, it might be that as well, based on the angle the bottom of the stairs part is inclined at (the stairs could be going down while the bottom is inclined up). the light definetely plays a lot in this, the shadows tricking you as well. in conclusion, you're an evil man, Jimi. Awesome work :) drac

dammit, haloedrain beat me to it :P

hehe....

haloedrain ( ) posted Sun, 30 January 2005 at 2:06 PM

woohoo, 100.000 points! Actually, I guess I sort of cheated by already knowing how to build one of these, since we used a lot of this sort of thing in my "sensation and perception" class last quarter.... But the top step doesn't have a shadow from the one "above" it, either, so that confirmed it.

derjimi ( ) posted Sun, 30 January 2005 at 2:09 PM

Damn, that learned me to have a look at the shadows before posting an image. ;-) Jimi

ah..well, I thought there was a trick to it, since the shadows were missing on a good part of 2 sides..thanks for the interesting idea..
