Subject: drape to infinity

More probs in the cloth room. I made what I thought was a base mesh to make shirts for Vicki. I made sure none of the polygons touched her but Poser locked up anyway. Then I tried just draping it over a pole to make sure. It starts to drape but then the drape count goes on forever instead of stopping and moving on to the frame calculations. Therefore, its not overlap with the Vicki model. I suspect this error indicates one specific mistake on the mesh (wrong shaped polygons?) but I don't know what it is. Any help? PS, thanks to ArtyMotion, Little Dragion and Diolma for previous help.

I get this occasionally. Remedies are to open in UVMapper and check for degenerate facets, double (treble) check the mesh for stray polygons and/or triangulate. Can you post a close up wire frame render?

I'm new and have to learn how to use UVMapper. That is, I MUST learn to use UVMapper. I'll look for a tutorial to check for degenerate facets and stray polygons. I'm not sure what triangulate means. Does that make the polygons triangles? Or, are triangles bad? Because, there are definitely triangles in the mesh. Thanks for your patience.

triangles are better than squares, detail wise anyways my dynamic clothes i always make from 3 sided polygons but other items, say a table and stuff that doesnt move i use 4 sided polygons, less file size and faster renders as for your problem, i get it occassionally i just reboot and its fixed if you didnt reboot since a time poser crashes then its more likely errors happen

Thank you PhilC and anxcon. I am an idiot in two programs. I'm trying to learn 3D modeling in Carrera and Poser at the same time. However, I got a version of the simple blouse for Vicki to work. The triangulate feature fixed the immediate problem. Now I just need to learn to make good seams for the sleaves. So much more to learn. I include a picture of my progress so far if anyone else wants to give me pointers.

First of all: more polygons! The cloth simulator likes lots of polygons to work with.

Looks like you are getting there. Much of this is down to practice. So well done ... keep on doing :)

Hey Diomede

Just to give you an idea of mesh density here is a shirt I did that worked well in the cloth room. Good Luck :) John
