I have no doubt that I am the umpteenth person to ask about this, but I want to learn and focus on where to look for the root causes of problems, rather than trying things at random and becoming discouraged. The space suit pictured is a fairly simple model (mostly boolean shapes) done in Max 6. I imported and converted it with Poser 5 to a .obj file. I followed the nice tut on Poser's website about basic bone and setup, with OK results- my model can move! But, of course you see the prob, and one that I'm sure everyone starts with. I've looked through the archived messages here, and found some interesting things. Is this a problem with the way I modeled (polygon count/ vertices/ welding)? Or can I overcome this in Poser itself. I did work with the grouping tool with mixed results. I appreciate your time and comments. Paul

well it's just like that old song Your wrist bone is connected to your arm bone your arm bone isw connected to your chest bone... Notice how your arm bone is not attached to both your chest and abdomen bone, as it seems your creation is. I would bring it back into the setup room and then make sure that the parent body part has at least one ring of polies around teh child body part, this way there will be no tearing of your mesh.

Yes, tearing usually happens because the grouping is wrong, I found out, through trial and error, that each group has to have seperate edges or there will be tears.

Thanks to both of you for the responses. I'll have to work on the grouping- and continue reading those tutorials!

There is a tutorial at daz about making figures that might be some help, though when I make the hip part it doesn`t have any leg parts in it.
