Interesting... I'll definately be keen to know the details... The complete lack of a long hype run up I HOPE is a good sign.

What will be the differences from Poser 5? Also, what will be the differences from Poser 4? Will Poser 6 be suitable for people who are still on oldish computers running Windows 98? Some people can't afford to buy a new computer every 2 years if the old computer still works.

Khai ( ) posted Tue, 01 February 2005 at 11:08 AM

nothing at this time is known. no details, nothing... just a case of wait and see....

Staby ( ) posted Tue, 01 February 2005 at 11:19 AM

I hope they improved the Face Room with more control points to better line up with the reference photos and that they officially support Mat and Mor poses. Open GL preview would be good too.

Berserga ( ) posted Tue, 01 February 2005 at 11:42 AM

I hope that they either fixed the strand based hair or scrapped it altogether.

XENOPHONZ ( ) posted Tue, 01 February 2005 at 12:03 PM

Oh, well.....one of my guesses in the other thread was at least close to being correct....... .........the part about the incorrect March release thread actually being correct. March might turn out to be a little off. But it'll be close.

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

Food for thought.....

I think that I should get a free copy of P6 for guessing correctly!!!!!! I'll be keeping an eye on my mailbox......... ;-)

I hope they don't release a f-cked up, buggy product with an insanely ungaily copy protection scheme.

Bobbie_Boucher ( ) posted Tue, 01 February 2005 at 12:39 PM

rowan_crisp: Curious Labs already did that with Poser 5. As for what'll be in Poser 6, I do believe Curious Labs had answered that question several times. Most recently we had the interview with Larry Weinberg. (Of course I can't find it right now.)

Anthony wrote: Will Poser 6 be suitable for people who are still on oldish computers running Windows 98? Some people can't afford to buy a new computer every 2 years if the old computer still works. Um, isn't there a little more of a timeframe from windows 98 to 2005? like 7 YEARS? Sorry, but with PCs 10-20 times faster with 4-8 times the available ram then the ones sold in 98 selling for under $500 (with a printer AND a monitor!), I have a hard time wanting CL to cater to users who do not want to upgrade. If someone can shell out $200 for software, they should be able to shell out $500 to upgrade their system.

Amen to that Gareee.

I'm hoping for March...That would mean I'd be getting a new version of Vue & Poser at the same time. Oh, How I love new toys. Ditto Garee...If software manu. would concentrate on CURRENT versions of WIN/MAC...maybe those of us that have stayed current wouldn't be having so many problems...as in code kept having to br written for old version. Also, has the potential to keep the end costs down as in R&D. Yep..that is selfish.

Yeah......I agree.

I am just wondering if Vue Infinite will be able to import P6 files?

Oh well......if it isn't right out of the gate: I am certain that e-on will update to give it that ability.

Hopefully, e-on and Curious Labs have been collaborating with one another on this issue.

So where's the official press release? unless the name Curious Labs is attached to the info somewhere I'd take this with a very large pinch of salt.

Xeno...it's all PZ3 or obj's....so I'm not worried. The only thing in V5P now is problems exist with the bump strenght & materials that are metal. That's been easy to fix, however tedious. E-ON is working with CL & there SDK to try & correct or least make a tick better these above issues :)

XENOPHONZ ( ) posted Tue, 01 February 2005 at 1:47 PM

Keep in mind that Vue couldn't import P5 files for a long time after first release. However, I'm fairly confident that things will be different this time around.

Really....I've always been able to...But I've only been using Vue since V4.

Bobbie_Boucher ( ) posted Tue, 01 February 2005 at 2:00 PM

There was one message here that said we'd be getting the news, including screenshots. I've yet to see the screenshots anywhere.

XENOPHONZ ( ) posted Tue, 01 February 2005 at 2:03 PM

I'm sure that they are working on it.

Really....I've always been able to...But I've only been using Vue since V4. Yes......the adoption of the ability to import P5 format files was what sold me on Vue in the first place. Vue itself has kept me there. For a long time, Vue could not import P5 files. Only P4.

hmmm...interesting. Guess I got in after the "fix". Anyhoo..I posted this exact ?, over at E-ON.

I posted the same question in the Vue forum here.

Sounds like it's covered.

P4 partisans should consider upgrading this time.

Is there a discount or upgrade for P5 owners ?

dlk30341 ( ) posted Tue, 01 February 2005 at 3:27 PM · edited Tue, 01 February 2005 at 3:28 PM

Xeno - I too hope people start moving beyond Poser4/PPP at this point as well.

Too be quite honest it's becoming increasingly difficult to support merchants NOT using P5 at this point.

I have so much P4/PPP stuff that at times is quite tedious to fix in P5. Wish there was a fast/magical way just to convert it all. Oh well.....

I'd like a trial version that actually works. Wanna test run that sucker into the ground before parting with my hard-earned cash. But I suppose that's way too much to ask.

Oh, joy. Another update I'm not going to have the cash or the computer for.

If would be useful to be able to re-parent a character or a prop to the UNIVERSE, if I want to make it unparented. It would be useful to be able to animate parentage and IK-parentage and IK-setting, so that e.g. if two frogmen arrive on a chariot (= a sort of torpedo that 2 divers ride), and the back man gets off and swims away, I can change his parentage from "chariot" to "UNIVERSE" partway through the movie run. If that is not possible, it would be useful, if in a movie I change the parentage of a character or prop or the IK-parentage of an IK-goal, its coordinates are recalculated separately for every frame that has any keyframe information for the part or its old parent. Perhaps with an option to choose this method or the old method. In my Poser 4.0.3 without PPP, the coordinate change for frame 1 is applied in all frames, so that in the above case Poser assumes that the frogman got off the chariot at frame 1.

I can only hope that Poser 6 shakes this community loose from from its stubborn Poser 4 fixation, something that Poser 5 was unable to do. I have never seen an online community so resistive to technological progress. While the rest of the 3D community moves on, Poser stays stuck firmly in the mud. My greatest hope is that they rewrite the idiot rendering engine to include HDRI, radiosity, global illumination, true ray tracing (POV-Ray grade), etc. I'm tired of exporting to other rendering engines to get honest image rendering quality. Vue 5 is about the only decent option that doesn't take more effort than it's worth, and it has its import problems, especially UV mapping. I want a native rendering engine that doesn't bite.
