OK, Why do texturing tutorials give the impression that making a V3 texture is as simple as tieing velcro shoes? Am I the only idiot out there who cannot figure out how to use either PSP9 or PhotoShop Elements??? After about 5 hours, I have a forehead, part of the cheeks and nose textured, as well as a crappily done eye. Anyways, I now have a HELLUVA lot more respect for people such as Morris who put out beautiful characters and texture packs. Hopefully soon, I will be able to finish this project. BTW, her name is Danielle. Please critique my attempt at a custom character. -The Starkdog

The layers have not been merged yet. I can't wait until I can get everything "smooth" to have a decent looking face texture. Here is the frontal face shot. -The Starkdog

The face is about 3000x2714 and the body will be 3000x5000!! If I get this done before Curious Labs releases Poser 10, I will be happy. I envy all you PhotoShop junkies out there. Danielle is a custom Late Teen character(18-21 years old), and based on SP3. She has a cute smile, and will have a pretty face. The reason I used SP3 is because she closely resembles late teenage women both in terms of body shape and height, and has an appropriate muscle tone. I do not understand where DAZ thinks that 12-14 year old kids(Laura and Luke) are only 4'2" tall??? -Starkdog

"Please critique my attempt at a custom character. -The Starkdog" need a better brand of moisturiser and lipstick!! ^_^ as for the texture, i find it easier to do face in poser face room then edit the texture in psp to fix whats left gets alot of the basic work done quickly as long as you're good in face room anyways :) once you get good at making the textures, you can make a picture of a human model and turn into full texture in as little as 2-3 hours, but some i admit i can still spend up to a month on easily if i want a perfect replica thats using only psp btw :)

I think she looks pretty good so far. Just a little fix around the eye area. I actually tried following one of those tuts over the weekend and after 2 hours I decided I just wasn't ready for skin texturing yet :)

anxcon, you can't use SP3 in the Face Room (....unless I am missing something).

You cant use sp3 in the face room, the head texture is applied as a judy/victoria 2 texture and doesnt fit stephanie. Poser 5 crashed after I tried it.

For five hours from start, I'd say that's not bad.

If you're planning to distribute your textures you could pick up an inexpensive merchant resource - there are some around here for around $10 - and learn a bit more by pulling that apart and incorporating it into your work.

If you haven't already, you might want to invest in the Universal Texture Convertor from DAZ; more expensive, but worth it in the long run.

I say this because the V3/SP3 body is a nightmare to texture from scratch, and I've had some success in texturing a V1/2 body (easier) and converting it to V3. Conversely, I always find the V3 head easier than V1/V2.

Don't go overboard on the extra plugins, though; the ones to convert between V1/V2, V3 and M3 should be enough.

Hope this helps.

You could make the texture for judy in p5 and then convert it to work with sp3 but I think the limit to face room textures is 2048x2048.

You're doing a great job. Texturing is definitely not easy, which is why I haven't flooded the Marketplace with lots of textures. They take a hell of a lot of time to produce. Paradoxically, it can be easier to make a reasonable looking texture by painting the majority of it, then adding a few skin details, rather than creating the whole lot from photos.
