conceptual image.. was with a photographer.. and he had shot something like this for an ad agency..so..here we are... probs is.. 1..my mat mapping is parametric..any other way..and it doesn't work. mat taken from the blue marble site. I increased the transparency to nearly 100..the highest it can go..so that the other side of the globe can be seen. Why is my globe looking like as if it missing latitudes or rather.. the sphere is too small for the mat? I used a foetus from 3dcafe freebie section.. 3dstudio max..cldn't import it into poser to fix it up the way I wanted it to be..more curled up..so I left it at that. Tried it in bryce..but it got all confused..and I was left with gaping holes.. I've also increased the transparency on the mat there so that it becomes part of the globe. why do I not feel comfy with what me've done? The lighting, post work (stars etc in photoshop..) will be done later..may add a 2d plane of planets behind..once me happy with these two.. But I am not happy... been on this for at least four days..fiddling with just these two...

It's not exactly clear to me where the fetus is in relationship to the earth. If it is supposed to be inside it I would look in through an ocean with a landform on the opposite side directly behing it and a landform on the viewer-facing side partly obscurring it.

why not use a volume material of some kind inside the globe?

tobinlam..it is supposed to be inside.. and it actually is.. here is a screen shot..nto that you can see much of it..i changed the camera angle a bit.. pog..i tried the volume material.. it didn't really give much shape to the arms and legs..too thin, I guess.. if, I think you were referring to volume material for the foetus... the concept behind the image btw..is "I am the earth and I am me.'

There are some good earth maps available at this link. There are color, bump, and even a transmap to make the land and or water clear. The globe I used in my Bryce award was created using the transmap on a bryce sphere.

The JHT site that electroglyph links to gives me a virus alert for a trojan called noclose.gen as soon as I click it. Might be better to give it a miss.

oh man.... does this happen to you, electroglyph? thanks cambert, for telling me...

I didn't get any alert from my anti-virus, which is up-to-date.

Here's a link to a thread with some nice planet textures.

No, but where I am the internet is sanitized for my protection. Sorry if I steered you wrong.

Here's some more information from McAfee -- Update March 11, 2004 -- The risk assessment of this threat was lowered to Low-Profiled due to a decrease in prevalence. This javascript trojan allows various hidden functions to take place on a user's system. It exists in two forms: In HTA form, an HTML Application is created which is not visible to the user and can not be closed. In HTML form, a browser window is created which is minimized and can not be easily maximized or closed. Typically these window "tricks" are seen associated with advertisement and banner ad programs. Especially affiliated with pornographic sites and sites which pay commissions to others for displaying banner ads. The trojan does not contain any other payload and does not cause any damage to the local system. Files which trigger this detection should be deleted.

Maybe an openwork earth with grid and continents to show the figure in the interior?

I would make a liquid type sphere one that looks like a shpere not all full. Then render it alone with the fetus inside. Render the earth seperate and combine them in Photoshop. Great concept though Rose.
