Subject: Cannot turn off "Yes" on "email on post"

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Sat, 05 February 2005 at 10:52 AM · edited Mon, 20 January 2025 at 9:49 AM

Help? I've tried clicking on "No" and in the forum itself it SAYS "No" but in the forums list it says "Yes" and I'm still getting emails from those places on subjects I haven't taken part in. I'd like to return to a state where I just get emails on threads I take part it (i.e. clicking on the "email me on reply" thingie under the message reply box). Can anyone help? Fran

Are you saying that you are getting eMail notifications for threads where you have never posted a message? I haven't ever seen that happen to me -- obviously YMMV. Maybe you can't change your original option within a thread -- i.e. after you have checked, "Email me when someone replies" you can't change it later within that thread.

Argon18 ( ) posted Sat, 05 February 2005 at 12:31 PM

You can change it but you have to post in that thread again then uncheck the box when you click post reply. I haven't heard of getting email from posts you haven't replied to, maybe you should check the setting in your profile?

Argon18 "I haven't heard of getting email from posts you haven't replied to, maybe you should check the setting in your profile? " Where in "My Profile" - I did look in there but couldn't figure out how to affect this. Fran. If you look at the list of forums - Under the List of forums there's a heading for "New" - under this title alongside each forum there's a "Yes" or "No" depending on how you've set it - what I'm saying is that I've gone into each of the forums I like to visit regularly and changed this back from "Yes" to "No" - and although in each forum itself it reads "No", once back on the forums list it still reads "Yes" - and I'm still getting email notifications from ALL new posts on that forum - I want to change it back to just getting email notifications on the posts I'm actually involved with. Help? Fran

------------------------------------------ I understand your problem as this. Please correct me if I'm wrong. :) You can subscribe to a forum by clicking "Edit Forum Options". Select the ones you want. There will be another selection right next to it. "Email on Post"...that means that when anyone who starts a new thread on that particular forum, you will receive an ebot. If you don't want any ebots like that, then do not put a checkmark on "Email on Post".

I'm afraid I've already tried there - it's under "edit forum options" yes? And every single one of those boxes for "email on post" is empty, unchecked, nada... I dunno, what next? Fran

The Admins here should be able to take care of this. Wonder why no one has replied as yet. Wish I could have been more of a help to ya, gal. Sorry. :(

Maybe they're asleep? I should be at this time of night. Oh well, maybe they'll get to it in a day or so - I'll just have to keep an eye on my email inbox until they do. Fran

Well I am not sure why either as it should have worked when you clicked the no button in the forum itself. Admins are usally off line over the weekends mostly so that might be why one hasn't gotten back to you. It might be a programers area so give it till monday and see if someone has gotten with you. I will post a message to them to give them a heads up. SndCastie

By the way, I now only seem to be getting new post notifications in BRYCE forum - even though all the other forums I had initially put "Yes" on are still showing that in the foums list but not in the forums themselves. Bryce too shows "Yes" outside the forum, and "No" inside the forum itself.... Yet that one's still sending out New Post notifications... Weird huh? Fran

Well the one on the outside is just letting you know if there is new messages or not doesn't have anything to do with ebots. The one on the inside of the forum is the one that controls the ebots. SndCastie

Exactly. The NEW column is meant to represent how many NEW posts since you last visited that forum. It has nothing to do with whether or not you are going to receive ebots from that forum.

AH but how come the word "Yes" appeared outside the forums - in the forums list - AFTER I had clicked "Yes" INSIDE each of those forums, and now won't go back to reflecting the "No" that I have returned all of those inside each of those forums to? It's just odd. Fran

"AH but how come the word "Yes" appeared outside the forums - in the forums list - AFTER I had clicked "Yes" INSIDE each of those forums, and now won't go back to reflecting the "No" that I have returned all of those inside each of those forums to?" Please keep in mind that the words "Yes" and "No" on the main forums list (outside) has no relation to the "Email on Post: Yes [No]" that is inside a specific forum. The "Yes" on the main forums list means that there have been new post since the last time you clicked on the "Mark All Read" inside a specific forum. For the outside list to change to "NO", you must click on the "Mark All Read" on the inside. If you are still seeing a "yes" after that, I'd say it's your browser cache and you should force a refresh or reload. The "Email on Post: Yes [No]" when marked "NO" should stop the ebots that have "Renderosity.com posting on Whatever Forum" in the subject line. If you are still getting these, you may need to log out (to end you current session variables) and then log back in. If you've marked "NO" inside a forum, but still see a YES you may need to select the NO again or force a reload/refresh. If you are getting ebots with "Reply to your Post in the Whatever forum", then that is from the Notify/Email me when someone replies checkbox when you've replied in a specific thread in a specific forum. I know that's a little confusing, but I hope it helps! :) Jenifer Keeling Renderosity Admin

Jenifer Keeling, "The "Yes" on the main forums list means that there have been new post since the last time you clicked on the "Mark All Read" inside a specific forum." But I've NEVER clicked on "Mark All Read", I wasn't sure what it did, so I never touched it - do I still click it to turn it off? Fran
