Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 05 1:41 pm)
Oh, I know how to do that. You'll need to hack the posershell.xml file.
Make a backup copy first, then open up the original in a text editor. Near the beginning of the file, just past the WidgetList, is a line that begins like this:
<Widget name="eGradientBackground" ....
In that line, change the value of widgetProcID to "7".
Save the modified posershell.xml, and launch Poser 5. You should now have a solid workspace background. No gradient, no texture.
One of the problems I have with Poser 5 is the sometimes poor contrast between text and background. What you've done would, I suspect, greatly improve the readability of the labels in the library display but, as your Materials room image shows, there's a lot of near-white used for lettering, where the light background starts to be a problem. I really hope P6 has some sort of easy-to-use setting of such preferences, and doesn't ignore so many default-Windows UI elements. Yes, I've gotten used to a lot of that, but there are other graphics programs which have their own idiosyncratic approaches, and lead to a whole new style of UI to puzzle out. It's one thing to devise tools for moving lights and cameras -- they're not something that's standard Windows -- but Windows, and the Mac OS, has been handling the actual windows in a consistent way for decades. Why break the tools that people already know? I was recently trying Bryce 4 -- it's been widely distributed as a freebie in the UK with various computer magazines -- and I still haven't figured what I clicked on to expand the display to full-screen. But that's a core function of the OS windowing system. This is turning into a rant. But changing the background/text colours shouldn't need anyone to be hand-editing XML files. And the default colur-scheme is just plain dumb.
Yes AntoniaTiger text and background that are the most problem here and we can't do anything, I hope Stefan can help us too because he was the first that was talking about a long time ago , I wish a simple interface with good contrast. We spend so many hours behind the Poser so after couple of hours I see nothing without my glasses anymore ;) and thanks to Poser I got my glasses anyway lol STEFAN WHERE ARE YOU WE NEED YOUR HELP!! Check out this thread for changing the background color of Poser's interface :) http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=1687430 That way I did change everything to a nice neutral, boring grey ;)Yesterday's the past, tomorrow's the future, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present.
Additionally, if you want to change the color of almost every widget in Poser 5, edit the following in Photoshop (MUST be Photoshop, PSP can edit them, but will not be able to save them properly for Poser 5 to be able to use them): 23000_materialRoom.psd 25000_Parameters.psd 25000_Parameters6.psd 26000_background.psd 26000_utility.psd 28000_faceRoom.psd utilityWidgets.psd These contain everything except the libraries palette, which I cannot find in any of the PSD files. If anyone knows where the libraries palette is located amongst the PSD files, please fill everyone else in, since that ugly doodoo color is a crime. When/if you edit these, make sure that you keep up with which layers were hidden, and save them back that way.

Hey Cath, You might find this link of some interest. Explains how to get rid of the folder icons in the libraries palette...and also the wheel dials in the Parameters palette. Somewhere I had seen a thread on how to edit the Parameter palette to make it smaller but I can't seem to find it now. SWAMPThis site uses cookies to deliver the best experience.
