Subject: Sorta OT: Gabriel's Horn

I just learned about Gabriel's horn in Calculus II. OMG! Freaky! How can a line with an infinite area underneath be rotated to form an object with an infinite surface area but a finite(even small, pi) volume? You can fill it with pi units of paint but never have enough paint to paint the outside. This is sorta OT because it concerns shapes.

LOL my brain just when 'huh?' I took Calculas but for some reason I've forgotten this. It certainly sounds strange.

Strange how that works isn't it :) Now i can see you sitting there and bondering over that for sometime. My advice is don't, you'll end up being grey haired like me from it ;)

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

Doesn't it work on a similar principle as that infinite cube thing (can't recall the name)? Take a cube, devide it into 3x3x3 and remove the middle cube along each 3x3 side. Then repeat over and over again for the remaining cubes and you have an object with infinite surface area and zero mass.

AND, I can't tell you the number of times I've been glad that I studied calculus at school. Actually, yes I can. Once, and this thread was it.

Somehow this reminds me of the Klein bottle.
