Great opportunity for those who meet the muster! I would be hard pressed for that! Cynlee, please check the link. It does not work for me. Is it me...is it the link? Well, thought you should know. TomDart.

hmmmmmm...an expensive Lottery :]

3DGuy ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 11:10 AM

Hmm so they want to publish YOUR photo's and you have to pay THEM without even the guarantee that they will be published? o_O So you could end up $20 poorer without anything to show for it...

Attached Link: http://www.spectrumfantasticart.com/faqs.html

"Spectrum is the leading and longest running fine art publication. They do charge fees for participation. There are many other fine art "Open Calls" for juried submissions that likewise charge fees. This is not an uncommon practice and there is a reason for it. "The fees off-set the administrative, printing, and distribution fees. (The cost of printing a high-quality book is substantial.) Plus, artists that are selected get a level of professional exposure that they otherwise would not have direct access to. There is some interesting information on Spectrum's site as to why fees are charged that might shed more light on the subject. Hope it helps to clarify things."

I will take it under consideration, thanks for the info. Cynically agree with Tedz and 3DGuy, but I guess any risk has its pros and cons.

You know I'm really proud of our forum & members here!! squeeze You won't believe the backlash this announcement got in the Poser Forum! well, maybe you would, lol... eeeks! :]

LostPatrol ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 2:41 PM

Well I had to go have a nosey! Woooooooooooow "Time Out" Its not like you are being forced, I mean max five entries First $20 then four at $10 max $60 so in Plain English that is 31. Not exactly a bank breaker. It costs more than that to go see Rod Stewart and he wont give you anything in return guaranteed. Yours Cynically LP

Tedz ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 2:54 PM

Ha ha...do We know anyone that is on the Selection Panel? I will chip in another $60 for Chocolates and Flowers. There is a certain wee NZ Girl who got something in return from Rod Stewart...a Divorce and Alimony. I wonder though, how much of this Book would be devoted to Photography....or would it be more a showing of Rendered Art such as Poser and Bryce?

cynlee ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 3:03 PM

...kinda wondered that myself... but have seen photography stand up well against renders/illustrations... would hope they'd want a variety :] (oh great... i typed announcement wrong i see..)

LostPatrol ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 3:07 PM

How much of this Book would be devoted to Photography? Is indeed a good question that I have wondered myself. he he "Announcement" there you go!

tvernuccio ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 7:59 PM

hmmmm, well i'm surprised abuot the backlash in the poser forum. i mean, it's just an announcement. paying fees to enter contests, like Cindy said, is pretty common. I've entered a lot of poetry contests, and there was always a submission fee for each poem. but at least everyone who's published will get a free copy of the book. the contests i entered, they had monetary awards for 1st-3rd place winners (and free books). The rest of us were all given the distinction of "honorable mention" and had to pay for our books. also, in the contests i entered, the books were NOT sent to publishers; nor was there worldwide distribution. they weren't send to websites or newspapers either for review. so compared to the poetry contests I've entered, well, i'm impressed. i doubt i'll enter anything though. if i had time to get out and shoot, i might. thanks for telling us, Cindy!

TwoPynts ( ) posted Fri, 04 February 2005 at 1:14 PM

I agree that it is suprising that the Poser forum took the news of a fee so poorly. I can only assume that a number of them are noobs and don't know that 99% of these things require a submission fee. $20 isn't bad compared to some, and the $10 for the additional entries is very good...better than spectrum. Hey, looking at the books distribution, this should be a business call...you could write it off your taxes. Anyway, I'm definately interested though I can't begin to decide what I have that would have a chance of getting in there. Hey, lifes a big chance, you gotta just go for it sometimes. :)

Big question and one that I think is deserving of a direct yes or no answer...... is photography going to be taken into consideration? I'm not against paying fees..... this is a common practice, both in magazine contest submissions and juried gallery shows. Yet I got the distinct impression that this was geared towards 3D art.... "Renderosity: Volume 2 Digital Art in the 21st Century" "Submissions are open to all digital illustration mediums and genres." Does photography qualify as a digital illustration medium? I know digital cameras, photoshop, yada yada, but I still have a hard time thinking of Photography as a digital medium.

I am, therefore I create.......

I'm not against submission fees. The thing that rubs me the wrong way is that the fee doesn't guarantee you get placed. If they let you enter your pictures and only take your money when they actually placed your pictures I would have no problems with it at all. How big is this book going to be anyway. If it's say 40 page.. with all the sections in Rendo there's maybe room for 2 pages of photo's which means..4 photo's?

Hmmmmm..... I'll find other less expensive ways to get my work out there. They're working better than paying that much of a submission fee for a needle in a haystack shot. Besides- It might be kinds obvious WHO would probably have better chances at getting their work posted. As for the free copy of the book, it would be cheaper to BUY the book than to post 3 photos anyways.

Good news. Well, I guess some of us should submit then, eh? Who is judging the entries, do you know?

If they are good enough, they'll get in. I doubt they know yet the ratios of what work will be accepted.

Official Notice: There is a special section reserved "Just" for Photographers within the Rosity Art Book! As to how many photographs will be accepted - that will depend totally on how many photos are submitted and how many the judges feel are acceptable works of art.
