Subject: Forum Suggestion for the Admin Team.

Khai ( ) posted Fri, 10 December 2004 at 12:36 PM ยท edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 7:20 AM

got a suggestion for the Admins here. a poser forum dedicated to the Poser 5 material room. now, before anyone starts scoffing saying we have the poser forum or the technical forum, let me explain. in the main poser forum it easy to loose posts concerning the intracies of the mat room. infact one promising thread was moved to the product showcase because a pay for Python script was in there but the main gist was a new shader tree system that anyone can setup and use for free! as for the techincal forum, it is mainly concerned with poser file hacking and is a wealth of information on that subject. again, posts on the mat room would get lost in there. why do we need a mat room forum? well, because of the complexity of the mat room and the lack of documentation for the programing of the room. this could be an oppertunity for Renderosity to work with the community to explore and document this resource. at this time, very little of the Mat Room's potential has been explored and I feel without a dedicated area for explorers to meet and share information this potential is going to go largely wasted.

It's a good idea, but the Poser technical forum is under-utilized. So they can post their materials questions in the Poser forum and the mods can move them to technical if they're too ..... technical.

they must agree, since no admin has repled.. and since others get replies with their ideas, I must conclude they are a rude bunch...

Hi Khai,

Not rude, just blind. Sorry, I missed your post. My apologies.

I will have to check with the Poser Mods, as this is their area of expertise and I don't know the pros and cons on your suggestion.

I'll have to go round up the Poser Posse for ya.
(I need an emoticon with a cowboy hat ;-)

All the best,
Lillian (Edited trying to figure out how to spell possee...possie...posey? You get the idea.)

Checking on the new forum suggestion will take longer than I originally thought due to everyone's holiday schedules. It will be after the first of the year before we have a decision made whether or not to add another forum. Sorry for the delay. I'll get back with you as soon as I can with an answer. Best regards, Lillian

bump? been over a month ;) with the progress being made on shaders in the poser forum I think this idea is becoming more relevant by the day ;)

Hi Khai, Thank you for the follow up. Much appreciated. My apologies on my delay in getting back with you. I reviewed the feedback request. It was determined that an additional Poser forum would be rather impractical. (There are already 3 Poser forums: Poser, Poser Technical and Poser-Python Scripting.) It was suggested that folks wishing to explore the Poser 5 material room please use the Poser Technical forum for this purpose. (Maybe use post subject like "P5MR....", or something like that.) I hope this suggestion will at least make the exploration of this specific area easier than it might be in the general Poser forum. Best regards, Lillian

won't work,(your suggestion, since we are not allowed to post off topic - remember 3 off topic posts and you is banned (the words of Spike).. and the Mat Room while techincal is not programming the actual files of Poser, which the technical forum is for... by your arguement, the Python Poser forum should actually be in the Technical Forum. logic? whats that?), but thanks anyway.

what I don't understand is, we have forums for the world and his dog, more gallery definitions than the Encyclopeida Brittinica yet 1 forum is too much?

hang on.. I just answered myself did'nt I?

Weeeellll...now that I am thoroghly confused 'bout what to post where in Poser land, sounds like maybe a topic to bring up in Poser country where the natives will be more "in the know" about such things. I'm sure ya'll will be able to work something out. There's plenty of Poser territory to go around ;-) And of course, if there's any concern you can always check with Spike to make sure it's cool. Thanks, Lillian

Khai, we relaxed that off-topic rule about 12 months ago. After all, we don't have an off-topic forum any more, so we can't ask people to take it there :-) And of course, if it was in the main Poser forum, then posts about the Poser material room would hardly be off-topic ;-)

" Khai, we relaxed that off-topic rule about 12 months ago. After all, we don't have an off-topic forum any more, so we can't ask people to take it there :-)" did you actually TELL anyone you did? like a post saying so? since it was 6 months ago Spike enforced the rule! "And of course, if it was in the main Poser forum, then posts about the Poser material room would hardly be off-topic ;-)" ever try to use the search engine roud here seriously? hmm? nope I did'nt think you had.. it's useless. enter more than 1 word and it fails. we're supposed to be able to use + - etc, but guess what. it is still impossible to find anything in less than an hour. hence my suggestion for a forum. ok, thats turned down (against all logic. we can have a forum for a minority addon for poser, yet we can't have a forum for an integral part of poser that most are struggling to understand or find the features of. as I said. logic? don't look for it here) far as I'm concerned the subject is over. I'll look elsewhere for help on the subject since it is plain that renderosity has no interest in developing the skill base of it's users.

*did you actually TELL anyone you did? like a post saying so?* Yes, see attached. Post 62 by Shoshanna. My mistake, it was actually last June. Khai, have you seen Mec4D (Catherina)'s posts on her current work in the material room? Well worth a look.

post 62... POST 62?? after the linking of the offtopic policy in the top banner, the threats and fighting over it when it was announced.. and you think ppl would notice the revokation made in the 62nd post of a thread ??????? c'mon! be serious! yes I have seen those posts. and in a week they'll be buried and hard to find for anyone not catching them now.

KarenJ ( ) posted Tue, 08 February 2005 at 6:39 PM

Khai, it was a big thread and you yourself participated, in fact you made post 63 I believe ;-) However, I do agree that a separate post should/might have been made after everyone had had their say. I can't remember if that happened (I wasn't on staff then and wasn't around as much). I just happened to have reread that thread recently so I had the link to hand. That said... you must have noticed the OT posts that have appeared, (unchallenged), regularly, since then. Or if you skip over them because they're marked OT and you're not interested, then that would indicate that the policy is working...? I know posts get buried quickly in the Poser forum. I tend to save interesting threads in my bookmarks with a descriptive title, then every so often I go through and organise them into different categories. I know this isn't what you feel you want from the software here, but it does have the advantage for me of keeping all my bookmarks in one place, no matter where on the web they are... Anyway. About a separate forum. One problem that was brought up is that what happens when Poser 6 comes along with new features in there? Will we then be asked to make a forum for Poser 6-specific, for Poser 6 lighting system, or going back to P5, for the cloth room, the hair room... content paradise? (nah!) We could end up with 10 different forums and we really don't want to get that specialised. I hope that helps explain the reasons behind the decision on making a new forum.

Khai ( ) posted Tue, 08 February 2005 at 6:47 PM

nope... but since the decision's been made against logic, what am I supposed to do? nice solution for you btw. what are new users supposed to do? ask the same questions over and over again when the information is there but buried and the forum software has a serach engine from Noah's Ark? rely on Little Dragon?
