Subject: Choked! Deleted figure before adding it to library!

ghelmer ( ) posted Wed, 09 February 2005 at 4:09 AM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 11:12 AM

I just spent the last 2 hours turning M3 into James Sunderland from Silent Hill 2 (which I'm trying to make a short of) and whilst messing around with props & guns 'n' stuff (no roses) I deleted him along with the stupid prop!

I'm sad. I just wanted to get that off my chest before I go to bed and cry myself to sleep. He was looking pretty good in a hetero/metrosexual kind of way! I'm really choked! Guess it's a good thing... need sleep... can't stay up Posering and reading the forum and looking at the galleries and eating junk food all night... two nights in a row!

LAter!

G

p.s. if anyone remembers a thread I started a few weeks ago about the sheer terror of first time posting in the gallery, I'm over it now!! Yay!

Sorry to hear about James. That's bad luck. I'm sure he was a real hunk! Well I'm sure there's even better characters to come so don't be sad. Get some sleep. Poser will still be there tomorrow. Love esther

Save as you Go... ever time you make a change "save", you can always go back and delete the saves later when you finish the project.

Phantast ( ) posted Wed, 09 February 2005 at 5:01 AM

This is so easy to do. Poser must be the only 3D program which does not highlight the selected item. The little label down at the bottom of the window is not much use, because it always shows a figure selected even when a prop is selected. So it's easy to think you are deleting a prop when in fact you are deleting a figure. And there's no undo. I've had this problem loads of times. One can hope that Poser 6 will finally correct this bit of bad design.

Thanks Niles And estherau! I normally save WAY too many times while working!! I was watching a movie while working so I was sorta distracted (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) so I didn't save once! Darn Kate Winslet and her mindbogglingly beautifulness!! In case anyone's interested before starting this project I made up a bunch of collage type character studies from the game... I'm looking forward to making the NurseBetty Demon thing!! Gonna be gross!!! Thanks! Later! G

SWEET! YOU HAVE TO SHOW ME THIS! I'm a huge fan of the Silent Hill series, and this kind of thing would be the single coolest poser creation ever!

Oh, and the nurse's name is "Nurse" according to the Japanese version of the game.

"can't stay up Posering and reading the forum and looking at the galleries and eating junk food all night" Why? Is that wrong? :-)

I sympathize with you totally. The "next worst" thing is to have a hard drive die. You can lose your custom characters that were not backed up. And then you get to spend days reinstalling all your Poser stuff. I just got an external 160 GB Western Digital hard drive. I'll use it to create a backup of the internal 160 GB hard drive, so I will never lose my Poser installation again!

Yeahh...and then there's people like yours truly who has several backups. On asecond HDD, on an external hdd, on cdroms of different brands, cdrw's, on my laptop,... And then comes the day that you buy something, and/or download some nw stuff. And the doubt which backup has been updated, and which not? etc etc... That also is a real horrorshow when there are several runtimes, and each has its own organisation... Back to topic: me too, I deeply sympathise. But there is also good news! The second time, it does not only go quicker, but you'll add some tweaks you couldn't see anymore on the first version as you were too much "in" it for too long a time.

I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now I'll be mad. (Rumi)

If you could make a Pyramid Head character for Mike 3, I'd worship you as a god.

Thanks all!! I feel a lot better after walking away and getting a good nights sleep!! Gonna get back on it tonight! One question though... Should I try to make the characters look as much like the originals as possible (had M2 & V2 looking strikingly similar last year when I started the idea - then shelved the idea!) or should I go it with a better looking model which has similarities (hair, wardrobe etc)?? You know when a movie is made from an existing property the new characters aren't always exactly the same as the originals... Take Adam West - Michael Keaton as Batman or Paul Michael Glasier - Ben Stiller as Starsky! Do ya know what I mean? Do I need to make my characters look like the ones in the cgi cutscenes of a 4 year old video game or can I update the look of them? At the time of it's release I thought the cgi scenes were perfect... now the base M3 & V3 models look way better than the games cgi characters... I guess what I'm getting at is it ok to lose the look and style of the games characters yet trying to keep the games atmosphere and aesthetic style?

p.s. Sarte... making Pyramid Heads "Head" and hand morphs in max... and I just like calling the nurse "Nurse Betty" cuz it was in a walkthrough I HAD to read for one little hint... honest! one hint!!

I'd hate to tell you how many times I've done that with V3.
