this is my first try to make a transparancie map when i render you can still see the original dress is there a way to fix it?

Did you make the areas meant for transparency completely black? And did you set it to 100% max transparency? Is the transparency falloff at 0? Is the highlight color black? those are a few things I'd check first. If you use various shades of gray, it only does partial transparency. If you use a highlight color other than black, you'll end up getting some weird effects sometimes. Hope that helps. Will check back in a bit. :)

Well I'm somewhat at a loss here then. If I have transparency problems, it's normally because of one those things I said. Perhaps someone else can provide some more things to check?

From the image it appears that the transparency pattern goes UNDER that part of the dress that's showing. Is it possible that the mesh is two sided and somehow that part of it didn't get mapped for some reason? I'm not very good at texturing and stuff like that, but maybe someone out there can check and see if this is what's happening. Kate (who wishes she could be more helpful on this one)

Check to macke sure in the fugure selection part in the materials menu that you have applied this transparency to EVERY part listed for the peice of cloithing. Sometimes they have more than one item that needs it to be applied to.

The thin strap dress in particular had a problem. This was corrected by Tim Laubach a long time ago from HappyWorldLand. http://store.yahoo.net/happyworldland/ Have a look in the downloads, basically what he did I think was to group the inside into a separate material which can then be made totally invisible.

Try setting the reflective color to black and see what happens. Maybe it's just giving it a shiny effect with the reflection color. Melanie
