Subject: Anyone running Poser with an AMD Sempron?

I'm thinking about buying a new system and don't know much about CPUs other than that Pentiums are great, but expensive. Thanks John

Shop around for the best deals. There were Pentium 4 systems going for $500 after rebates. I bought a emachines AMD Athelon 2800+. Runs Poser with the ability to actually render a scene with more than one figure in it in less than an hour. !!! :)

I'm also about to buy a new machine and i can't decide at the moment between a 3.2 GHz P4 or an AMD64. I know the 64 is technically better but I just wonder how it would be with Poser5 or 6!

I have read posts in the past which say that Poser runs faster on AMD chips. I just got a new PC with AMD 64bit CPU. It's hard to tell how much the CPU helps cause I also got 2 gigs RAM and a Raptor HD, but it the new machine is Poser fast. I can manipulate 2 or 3 M3s or V3s in a scene now without it feeling like they are submerged in molasses.

Thanks so much for all the feedback. I'm still undesided between the AMD 64 and the Sempron. I'm still leaning toward the 64, however a new system for $250 is also appealing. Thanks John

According to most of the stuff I have read, pound for pound, AMD's run faster than their Intel equivalents, but hotter.

" bought a emachines AMD Athelon 2800+. Runs Poser with the ability to actually render a scene with more than one figure in it in less than an hour. !!! :)" You're kidding right? I've got a AMD Athlon 2400+ that can render a complete poser scene (4 fully textures & clothed figures and a complete high resolution interior) within 20 minutes with good quality settings..... I would go with AMD, my father-in-law has a P4 2.8Ghz and when it comes to rendering and such, his P4 can just barely outrun my Athlon which only runs at 2.0Ghz.

Artwork and 3DToons items, create the perfect place for you toon and other figures!

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

Food for thought.....

Might I state the obvious? I do believe the Sempron replaced the Duron, which is actually less powerful than the Athlon XP. The Sempron and Duron are equivalent to the Intel Celeron. I'd rather go for the full-powered Athlon XP (or Athlon 64) or Pentium CPU myself. Graphics work will take all the power we can give it.

Yes the sempron is replacing the Duron, but there are 2 versions of the sempron, one is a socket A , version and the other, the socket 754, the 754, version is a dumbed down version of the A64. If you are looking at a Sempron, go for the 754, as it gives you the upgrade path of the A64. If you plan on doing that, you just as well go for the entry level A64, which is the A64 2800, the price difference between the sempron 3100 and the A64 2800, is negligible.

OR throw all yer parts in an AMD64FX/mobo combo.. save $$ of a whole new system.. The FX is even faster yet, the latest thing they offer (socket 939). I have (yet) no experiences with it.. But I have ran Poser on every AMD since K-62 days, and every chip in 'tween.
No probs, but also no pents to compare em too.
I have my eye on an AMD54FX 939 socket combo......very reasonable considering the cost of a (another) new system.
Have 5 "high-end" rigs networked, the oldest and slowest is an AMD XP1800 cant justify buying any new one, but upgrading.....well............ [EDIT] OOOOOPS the latest is the socket 940 .. the price is scary!
