I have looked in preferences and cannot find a setting for changing the grey to black on my pallette, or whatever you call it. I know colours can be changed in my PC settings. but I believe this is an adobe thing... Anyone?

I'm using Photoshop CS . I can change the application background in windows setting by display/ appearance / advanced/ application background. But try this while in photoshop... there is a short-cut with the f key hit twice that turns the background black. That plus the Tab key is where I do most of my detailed selection on images. Hope this helps.

Well at least I learned about the Tab key.. I like that function.

Don't know if it's still the same on CS, but on PS6 you can change the grey background by shift-clicking with the Paint Bucket tool (on PS6 it hides behind the Gradient tool).

not too sure about the programs background (1) but to change the default colour for the opened image (4) simply select the colour you want and maker it the "forground" (3), select the "paint" tool (2) and hold down the SHIFT key and click anywhere in the outer area (4)...

hope it helps,
:)

Ahh ok.... thanks. That is all I need. I like a darker background while editing images for some reason. That worked!
