Subject: Poser 5 and all those Poser 4 items

I've had Poser 5 sitting here for a couple months, but I just haven't had the nerve to install and play with it so now is the time. My question is this. Should I just move all my installed characters, lights, etc. from Poser 4 over to my Poser 5 directory or will I have to do things another way? I haven't gotten that far in the instructions yet to know. Thanks for your help.

You can access all your poser 4 files from right where they are now.

Within Poser 5 you can set your Poser 4 libraries to appear in the Poser 5 library.

Poser 5 supports multiple runtimes. It would be easiest to just link your P4 runtime to P5. That way, you can use both P4 and P5, without duplicating everything.

The only thing to remember is that if you're using DAZ's generation 3 figures, you should copy the !DAZ folder to the main runtime.

Thank goodness! Thanks for the quick replies! I wasn't looking forward to moving all that stuff.

You might consider this a good excuse to trim down your Poser installation, and only install what you use on a regular basis, into Poser 5. One thing many people neglect to mention is bump maps. Poser 5 uses jpg bump maps, while Poser 4 uses BUM bump maps. BUM bump maps just don't look right in Poser 5. Besides those pesky BUM maps are huge! I dumped Poser 4 entirely, and reinstalled everything for Poser 5, and use external Runtimes.
