Hi,

I have been working on a suit of armor around the p5 base male figure. How do I go about importing it and making it into something that I can put on the figure so it will be moved along with the figure when I pose it?

This is done in rhino around the default geometry of the figure. I plan on exporting it as a .obj file. I am using poser 5. I attempted importing the helmet once, and poser crashed, so... I figured it would be best to get some advice.

Thanks.

are you inteding each item to be a separate figure in poser? ::::: Opera :::::

It doesn't matter to me. If it's easier to break it up into legs (pants) torso (shirt) etc... then that's fine with me. I noodled around with it a little bit and managed to get an export obj to import into poser without crashing, so that's a good sign. I wasn't sure what to do with it next though. Thanks.

If you use uvmapper pro you can make groups there if you are going to make this a conforming figure.

It is better to use the standard poser naming for the parts so that the file will work better with poses and the walk designer etc. Loading the obj into uvmapper (even the free one) and resaving it should make sure that it doesn`t crash poser.

In rhino I can create groups and name them, will that do the trick? I will take a look at UVMapper. Any suggestions on how to turn it into something conforming? Or recommendations on tutorials that talk about that? I've looked through the manual but that's not very useful. Thanks.

If you make the groups in rhino and then load the object into uvmapper you can check if the grouping worked for poser. Dr geep has a few tutorials here about making figures.

http://www.daz3d.com/support/tutorial/index.php?id=722 and http://www.daz3d.com/support/tutorial/index.php?id=693 are two tutorials by me at Daz about using the set up room to create conforming clothing ( the 1st one ) and the set up room to create a complete character. They may help you.

Thanks odeathoflife. I will check those out this evening. I found an index of geep tuts at http://www.ebonshire.net/tut-geep/index.php. I will also look through those as well, but if anybody can recommend specific tuts (as listed on the page or with links if elsewhere) I would really appreciate it. Thanks
