I decided to put my computer out of commision for a while and render a max resolution image. Here are the results. I forgot to take a screenshot of the taskmanager but Bryce probably logged around 230 hours of CPU time. Anybody want to try to top this? Or is you computer a wimp and overheats a few days in. By the way, my computer is a laptop.

Only 12 days.... Hmmmmm I think I heard BryceTech talk about a 3 week render...

No thanks. Was it worth it?

What I hate is when you get to Day 11 and the power goes down and destroys it. It could happen.

Redfeather ( ) posted Sun, 13 February 2005 at 12:27 PM

GEEEEZZZZZ! None of mine ever seem to take any longer than 12 hrs at max rez. no wonder my pics look like hammered **** ;) (sys spec: amd athlon over clocked to 1800, 512 ram, 128 graphics card.)

Rayraz ( ) posted Sun, 13 February 2005 at 3:01 PM

lol, redfeather, rendertimes are not a measurement of quality ;) often times the longest renders will turn out less then perfect 'cause the horrible rendertimes don't allow for much tweaking unless you've got the patience of an angel haha

I would only render something for that long if it was for printing out. Wonder where the final is?? Hope it was worth the down time.

LordOfAcid ( ) posted Sun, 13 February 2005 at 5:51 PM

TobinLam, i downloaded a a waterfall bryce file and the girl/woman that put it together said it took 3 weeks to render it on her computer. so i think that tops 12 days ;)

TobinLam ( ) posted Sun, 13 February 2005 at 6:15 PM

The original 1024x768 was pretty cool but the hi-res version is freaking awesome. I think I'm going to sit down sometime and just explore all the reflections that can't be seen in the original. I plan on making a poster with it.

Wimps! I'm still waiting for a render I started in Bryce 1.

Never overheated back then? I have never overheated now. That 12 day render was nonstop except for maybe a pause to check something 15% in. Edit: I also ran BOINC so I could find aliens and pulsars and map protein structures at night.

I have a file hat has been rendering for days even with a relative low render settings and resolution. I think I would get a very long time for render if I render settings to max.

Not sure I want to try it out, it just takes so long time.

My pc had overheating probs when the fan started giving probs during mid-summer at room temperatures of 35-40 degrees Celcius lol. Other then that I haven't had probs. Anyways, them old pc's didn't even need processor fans :P lol, now those were the good old days ;)

beats me, but trying to concentrate with 3 grandchildren fight..er, negotiating loudly in the background does tend to shorten one's attention span..;) I just hit 19 hours the other week, but I'm in the 'pdq' school of rendering, for Horn and Hardhart..;)

Here is the desktop-size(1024x768) version I posted back in October. It is pretty dang close to the same file size though it has 1/15 the number of pixels.
