What's bad is that I preordered even though I did the same darn thing with Poser 5 and swore I never would again. Ack! I guess, at some point, I should delete Poser 4. I'm going to need some extra room on the old hard drive.

aniela ( ) posted Wed, 16 February 2005 at 7:29 PM

Doc!!! Do you will skip Poser 5?????? I still have lot to learn on it!

Seraphira ( ) posted Wed, 16 February 2005 at 7:29 PM

operaguy ( ) posted Wed, 16 February 2005 at 7:36 PM

Doc TutUnCommon, if that's REALLY Poser6 and not a fig newton of your imagination, please show a closeup of the animation tools, I want to see if they made the frame indicator more than 3 digits for gosh sakes. ::::: Opera :::::

I was coming here to ask if I should preorder or not. ;o) I have Poser5 and if I preorder, I will take the upgrade. I have a few questions: 1) Do you know when is the deadline for preordering? 2)If I buy the upgrade from P5, does that mean I will have to replace P5 by P6 or is it a complete version that I can install in another directory than P5? 3) Do they usually have really good prices for preorder compared to the regular price you pay when the program is out? 4) Considering that Poser is just a hobby for me, do you think it is worth spending $129US on an upgrade to P6? And the most important question for me... There are some files we use in Poser5 that cannot be used in Poser4 (dynamic hair, clothing for examples) and if I had only Poser4, I would miss all those wonderful freebies that can only work in Poser5. Will this happen with Poser6 too? Will there be files in Poser6 that won't work in Poser5? Thank you. France

xantor ( ) posted Wed, 16 February 2005 at 9:08 PM

There probably will be some things in poser 6 that wont work in the older versions but most things will probably work in poser 5. All poser 5 things actually work in poser 4, apart from the cloth room stuff and the hair room. Figures just might have procedural textures that don`t work in four. I know that don and judy work with propack.

geep ( ) posted Wed, 16 February 2005 at 9:10 PM

Hi France,

I will try to answer your questions as best as I can. (caveat ---> (from a position of total ignorance, of course)

  1. don't know
  2. believe it is a complete version
(... I have P4 and P5 installed at the same time with no problems)
(when I add P6, I'll let you know if it works) ;=]
  3. yes
  4. yes, you can spend far more than that on other hobbies

re: P4 can't use P5 files?
It is often true that new features (i.e., files) that a newer version of software offers can not be used by previous versions.
IMVHO - It is not possible to make everything in newer software backwards compatible, n'est pas? (rhet) ;=]

re: P5 can't use P6 files?
Possibly ........... let's wait and see. ;=]

You're welcome!

Does anyone know if P6 retains the non-firefly P4 render engine? Does anyone know if there is any new "content" that is figures and clothing not whatever that Snow Queen is about. Is this basicly a more stable version of P5 with some new mproceduaral render tricks? Thanks.

Francemi ( ) posted Wed, 16 February 2005 at 9:18 PM

Well thank you xantor and Dr.Geep. I will try to find out the deadline and if I can afford it before then, I'll preorder the upgrade. France

I'm considering the upgrade as well. Can you tell me if it is still compatible with Vue d'Esprit? Will Vue recognize the P6 pz3? Thanks!

Also, the bottom line is this: Does anyone know if this thing will run faster or slower than previous versions?! I would like to buy right away but I wish there were benchmark tests and certainly I want to know about new "content"! Are there new P6 figure that will be more usable/supported than Don and Judy who seem seem to have died a fast fast death. And those kids... what ever became of those. The P5 clothes content was impressive though but who is using these figures... though why does Judy have such a weird face... putting the P5 Universal head on both the male and female figures would have been best. Back when DAZ was polling vis the Millenium 2 characters I begged them to give them utterly vague base faces so that morphing wouldn't have to battle such awefully recognizeable features. I think Narsisus' Nea is excelent in giving a good base to build off of. I wish that CL could simply have given a bland face with one or two character morphs for the newbies and lazies. My big battle in Poser has been to make charcters that don't look like there base figure. Anyway, I find the CL site i little too nigardly with the info. Can anyone fill me in on this stuff.

pigfish9 ( ) posted Wed, 16 February 2005 at 10:12 PM

I just pre-ordered my Poser 6. I had the e-mail with the $50 discount from signing up for the newletter (again--since I had been getting them since they started) and the $89 offer for being an Early Adopter of Poser 5. I tried the coupon first which brought the $129 down to $79. Even though I knew there was a $100 minimum purchase on the coupon, I entered the information for the Early Adopter special just to see if I could get both (like $79 wasn't cheap enough--I had to get greedy and try for $39). Well, the discount not only didn't work with the $89 offer(which was no surprise), I still got charged the $89 when I backed up to my coupon order form. So, if you have both offers - go with the coupon and save an extra $10. I did write CL's customer service to see if I can somehow get the additional $10. I'll keep you posted.

Tried to preorder, somehow my serial number , you know the number on the inside of the Poser 5 CD-folder isn't a valid number, worked fine when I registered but it's not valid enough to upgrade to Poser 6 :)

It looks like the same old rubbish. "Figure1/Main Camera" What the hell is selected? What is deleted if you press delete? Figure1? The Camera? This is very disappointing.

Well, I was a sucker. I didn't go for the upgrade. I got the package with Poser6, Winter Queen, and Shade LE. I was thrilled to get P5 when it came out, then I installed it, it intimidated me too much and I uninstalled it and just played with P4 for a while long. I decide to give P5 another chance last year and install it on the system, and begin to get the hang of at least some of it's functions.......and bam....P6. Oh, well. grin Hope P6 doesn't intimidate me.

Most (if not all) of the geep tutorials written for poser4 are still valid for Poser5 & will be for Poser6, I'm glad someone who really thinks of (& cares about) the community like the dr does is going to be buying the latest version of Poser6. Long live dr geep one of the best assets the Poser community is lucky to have :D
