Secret #10 Revealed: Release delayed until FALL 2005 - (still with no exact date) & it will take at least 4 service releases before everything will actually work!

Sorry...I couldn't resist. But really, If you are THAT close
to actually releasing a (very)long awaited software update -Why play games with your user base?

I find this "secret revealed" stuff to be unprofessional. Just list the new features and improvements, and let me decide if it is worth my pre-release dollars.

Asking me to pre-order NOW so you can raise money to help support development is one thing - but not telling me exactly what I'm getting is a deal breaker.

I find this "secret revealed" stuff to be unprofessional.

Quite the contrary. Keeping people on the edge of their seats builds up excitement and interest in a product. It's called marketing. 8-)

I like the little tidbits of info. And I'm waiting for a check to clear before I push that "pre-order" button. 8-) Have done it every release since Version 1. Ain't gonna stop now. 8-)

Asking me to pre-order NOW so you can raise money to help support development is one thing - but not telling me exactly what I'm getting is a deal breaker. You have a excellent point. Put it that way, and it sound like they don't think were Poser savvy users. Or, were so impulsive it wouldn't matter. It took me a while to upgrade to 5. It will probably take me a while to upgrade to 6. I want to see what actually consumers have to say about it. Plus, there's always bugs in the first release.

randym77 ( ) posted Wed, 16 February 2005 at 7:34 PM

It must be working. So many people are pre-ordering their server is choking.

jpiazzo ( ) posted Wed, 16 February 2005 at 8:04 PM

We'll the marketing seems to be working! I don't mean to be overly negative - I will probably buy P6, if it is remotely more stable and delivers on what it promises. Are there any Beta Testers out there that can attest to P6's performance? Your selling it, it's about time to let them loose! I recall that CL once stated that the focus on P6 would be getting all the features of P5 working real good, rather than adding alot of new bells and whistles. The rendering improvements and open GL support sound great. I personally would like to see a greatly improved animation features. But I guess we'll have to wait and see. JP

Are there any Beta Testers out there that can attest to P6's performance? If there are, they would most likely be violating a Nondisclosure agreement if they said. Most companies take NDAs very seriously.

Right! P6 must be still in Beta state...It's nice that they have come up with a real preety box. JP

randym77 ( ) posted Wed, 16 February 2005 at 8:38 PM

Is that the Winter Queen on the box? At least the picture looks like something you can actually do with Poser. Unlike the P5 box.

jpiazzo ( ) posted Wed, 16 February 2005 at 8:55 PM

Mmmm, a new P6 female? or just a hair and clothing pak? Can CL really make Vicky jealous?

Dave-So ( ) posted Wed, 16 February 2005 at 10:30 PM

hopefully the new queen doesn't have to wear a paper bag like Judy. I'm real reluctant to buy P6 right off. I bought Poser 5 pre release and got burned real real bad... However, the pre-re;ease price of $89 for early adopters is almost to good to pass up. Do I dare become a final beta tester again ????

What I really find insulting out of all of this is that Curious Labs thinks that any of us could truly be suckered into pre-ordering Poser 6, after how many got screwed the last time around and it took so long to even get the application to perform (somewhat). Do I want Poser 6 to succeed? YES! But do I want to pay big bucks and stand the chance of getting shafted? NOPE! Thank you, but I will hold on to my money a bit longer, see from the artists in this Community what can be done in the application and find out what is practical and what isn't (instead of advertising hype)and then pay my money... I just don't want another Poser 5 or a Halo 2... Jack

Teyon ( ) posted Wed, 16 February 2005 at 11:09 PM

Why doesn't Curious offer free upgrades to owners of the version of Poser released directly before version 6 was announced? The folks who make Rhino offer free versions if you are making a single step upgrade. That means that if you own version 3 and you want version 4, it's a free upgrade but if you own version 2 and want version 4, then you have to pay a small upgrade fee (not the full cost of the product). It would be a nice way to get more users to support the company when it releases a product. I'm glad to see Poser finally includes an HDRI render ability. I just hope the riging and animation features haven't been left behind just to advance the render engine.

Why doesn't Curious offer free upgrades to owners of the version of Poser released directly before version 6 was announced? giving away your software doesn't pay the bills. >It would be a nice way to get more users to support the company when it releases a product. but it wouldnt be able to pay the programers to make the product. If your talking about people who buy 5 now should get 6 free. there is one of the "pre sale" offers that is the same price as Poser 6 you get Poser 5 now and 6 when it comes out.

You could always buy now at the reduced price, then sit on the box and wait for us life-on-the-edgers to ferret out the bugs for you, before installing ....

Seriously, I don't think you'll get it any cheaper later, even on Amazon. $89 ....

"Asking me to pre-order NOW so you can raise money to help support development is one thing" They don't offer the pre-order to raise money. This is from the Newsletter: And remember, all preordered product will not be charged to your credit card until the day it ships!

People are pre-ordering? Before they even know what the feature set will be? Truly Barnum was right.

randym77 ( ) posted Thu, 17 February 2005 at 5:27 AM

Yes, I pre-ordered. And judging from how swamped CL is, there are a lot of us who can be "suckered into preordering." :-)

Little_Dragon is right. I'm paying $79, with the coupon they gave out last December. For Poser 6, Shade LE, and the special limited edition content. I seriously doubt I'll ever get a better price. At that price, I don't care if P6 is buggy. Heck, I'm fully expecting it will be. Vue 5 was buggy, too, when first released, but I don't regret preordering it. E-on fixed Vue 5, and I'm confident that CL will fix P6, should it be necessary.

Bug ( ) posted Thu, 17 February 2005 at 6:01 AM

$89 bucks??? I hate to go on a rant because I have liked what I have seen up to now, but the price in the email I received for the upgrade was $129, probably because I live in Europe. Not that I can really say that Poser is an expensive program, but the difference in pricing policies is annoying and leaves a bad aftertaste. People generally will percive that as being treated unfairly. P6 does look promising, and I wish CL good luck with it, however we still have to pay duties on top of the price CL is offering it at, plus addditional shipping and in the case of here in Norway, even a handiling charge of about $30 for the tax authorities. So I have to wonder what CLs motive is for charging about 40% more for the same product here in Europe. Do they belive we are so much richer than people in the US, or just that we are used to paying higher prices so we wont really notice? I really can't help feeling slightly insulted by this. If I order a book from Amazon, I don't pay a "special price" because I am a foreigner, they get exactly the same amount of money from me whether I am in Kentucky, Timbuktu, or Siberia. Think I'll pass on this until there is a downloadable version that I can buy without feeling like I am paying more for it simple because of my location on a map.

randym77 ( ) posted Thu, 17 February 2005 at 6:08 AM

The $89 price is for "early adopters" - people who pre-ordered Poser 5, or bought it very early. CL promised that people who served as unwitting beta-testers last time would receive special consideration this time. The $89 price is it. If you think you qualify, contact CL and tell them.

I paid $79 because I had a $50 coupon. (They gave it out last December, to entice people to subscribe to subscribe to their newsletter.)

Why doesn't Curious offer free upgrades to owners of the version of Poser released directly before version 6 was announced?<< If you bought P5 within 45 days ago you get P6 free, according to CL. Buq>>the email I received for the upgrade was $129, probably because I live in Europe<< Upgrade from P5 is 119 for us in Europe.

Bug ( ) posted Thu, 17 February 2005 at 9:10 AM

Actually there are 3 prices listed in the email I recieved, I don't know if they are sending different emails to different countrys but the one I got says: Preordered upgrades will be available from $129 US / 119 Euro / 82 Pounds, but only those who order in time will receive the Poser 6 Special Edition.

randym77 ( ) posted Thu, 17 February 2005 at 9:47 AM

That's the same e-mail I got here in the States.

The e-mail offering the $89 special price to "early adopters" is different, and was sent separately. I haven't heard what the special price in euros is; maybe they haven't considered it.

Their store seems to be rejecting serial numbers from overseas, too. Maybe wait a couple of days, and see if they get the problems fixed. If not, I'd e-mail them and ask for the special price, if you really were an early buyer of P5.

Curious_Labs ( ) posted Thu, 17 February 2005 at 7:15 PM

Hi, Only one email was sent out with the general description for the upgrade pricing. The pre-order upgrade price from Poser 5 to Poser 6 (pre-orders include SE version) is: 129 US / 119 Euro / 82 UK Pound. There was another email that was sent out to the "Early Adopters" of Poser 5, having either pre-ordered the first release (Windows - English) or within the September 6, 2002 to October 31, 2002 - the time frame before any Service Release. This offer is extended to all that purchased. Unfortunately however, we are finding out that not all of the user details were delivered to us from our former parent company Egisys, before they closed their doors. I've been trying to post this to as many threads as possible. If you did not receive the special $89 offer and either pre-ordered P5-W-English or purchased between September 6 2002 through October 31, 2002; please send me an IM with your contact details, serial number and proof of purchase so we can make sure you become eligable for this offer. With kind regards, Katherine

"...Halo 2" Cause the last thing Curious Labs would want is one of the most profitable and sucessful sales events in their industries history :)

randym77 ( ) posted Sat, 19 February 2005 at 5:24 AM

LOL! I was wondering about that. What's wrong with Halo 2? (I don't have an Xbox, so all I know about it is what's the news. All the news I've seen about Halo 2 has been positive.)

soulhuntre ( ) posted Sat, 19 February 2005 at 3:12 PM

There are folks that complain about H2 the way folks complain about all sequels. H1 was an AWESOME single player game... with a great campaign. H2 is, in that aspect, like a middle movie of a trilogy. it makes some important plot advances but the campaign mode is short compared to H1. What H2 IDID do was bring a level of multiplayer gaming to the tablew that is simply AWESOME.
