Subject: Object appers tiny in Modeller room

When I import an .obj (usually one exported from poser) It opens up in the assemble room great & at a decent size. However, when I click onto the modeller room (vertex) it is absolutely tiny. I have to zoom in to about 50000% just to see the thing (even though the size is fine in the assemble room). Why is this? (btw, I'm using Carrara 3)

Anytime I see something screech across a room and latch onto someone's neck, and the guy screams and tries to get it off, I have to laugh, because what is that thing?

The scale on Poser figures is very small, and typically require enlarging when importing into any external application. Turn off the automatic scaling when importing the .obj from Poser and try a value of 20 in the text box (that's the default scale factor Eovia uses with the Transposer plugin).

Graviton DustRider's correct, in that Poser's native scale is extremely small compared to other modellers, including Carrara. Although the Assembly room looks like a good scale, in the vertex room I usually have to magnify the model by about 5975.6% or more. One fault Carrara has is that the more you magnify the more "offset" there is between the vertex, edge and polygon displays, making it harder to select a vertex. I've mentioned this since C3 and it's still a problem in C4. You can scale the model up when importing it into Carrara,which makes it MUCH easier to work on, but remember what percentage you use since you'll have to reduce the model by the same amount when going back into Poser. This is especially important when making morphs since the slightest change in scale when re-importing to Poser can make the morph go wild.

Thanks for tha advice guys.

DustRider: I have found that manually inputting a value on import makes the object large in the assemble room but it is still remains really tiny in the model room (no matter what value I input).

trav: If I scale the model up in the model room it also scales up in the assemble room. So I end up with a massive model in the assemble room (which is not practical)

The problem is the disparity in size between the assemble room & the model room. In the aseemble room it can be really quite large but still miniscule in the model room.

I have found that I get more practical results using the transposer plugin, so I will have to use that for now. However, it would be nice if I could work this problem out because a simple .obj import is sometimes preferable to me than a Transposer one. This way I can change some of the vertex import parameters depending on the type of work I am doing (allowing me to select polymesh parts by name etc.).

You might try Objacation Scaler from link in the message above (hit enter by mistake). It's free, and will alow you to modify the scale of a .obj before import into CS.

It looks good DustRider , however, I am using a Mac & Objacation Scaler appears to be a Windows only application.

Sorry, I always forget to ask about PC/MAC. I'm out of ideas, I always had the same problem with CS3, but never really pursued a optimal solution as I also have Cinema 4D XL6, so it is my crutch for modeling some items (clothes) for Poser that CS has issues with. I'm sure that it is a solvable problem, it's just been easier for me to fall back on C4D.

You might try asking your question in the Carrara forum at Yahoo. It's very active, and most of the big Carrara gurus are there.

In the Assembly Room, they scale up the model to 'normal' size and leave the original model alone. If you go into the Vertex modeling room, and scale it up to the size you want, then go back to the Assembly room and in the objects Properties pane, you'll find it's 'overall scale.' Set that back to 100% (from wherever it is, probably 500% or more,) and everything should be OK. But do remember the advice about what size you scaled it by, you will need that to send it back to 'Poser-size.' Good luck!
