Congratulations! Yeah, but the real test will be if you find yourself surrounded by Yanks singing "My Country Tis of Thee" and you find yourself wanting to sing the words of "God Save the Queen",lol.

drawbridgep ( ) posted Thu, 17 February 2005 at 4:46 PM

Shouldn't be a problem. Like most Brits, I only know the first line to God Save the Queen.

@Drac-As you know by now my humor tends to lean to the obscure. If I'm not mistaken, the American song "My Country Tis of Thee" and the British anthem "God Save the Queen" have the same melody. Hope this clarifies things. ;-)

Redfeather ( ) posted Thu, 17 February 2005 at 5:14 PM

Indiana not a bad place to live. been there a few times a bit cold fer my taste but nice and open country sides, decent ppl. Good luck!

pakled ( ) posted Thu, 17 February 2005 at 5:16 PM

Now if you learn the alternate words to 'Perseus in Anachreon'..you'll fit right in (hint, it happened during the war of 1812..;)

I won a karaoke once by singing the Sex Pistols version. I think they let me win to stop me singing though.

Bryster - Gas prices over here are crazy at the moment. $1.91 a gallon! See, been here six months and already I think 1 pound a gallon is a lot :-) And I can't vote yet. So can't do a lot about that. BUT, no one can vote for Bush again. Blonderella, you're just behind me. Another month or two. Thanks for the kindness, I know this means nothing to you, but I appreciate it.

I'd like some of the petrol that bryster asked for too!!! Congrats Phil As to Boston, spent 5 hours there waiting for a plane to be fixed, discovered that the american airlines crew are possibly one of the worst that I've flown when it comes to being friendly at 3:30 am in a closed airport :(

England's loss - America's gain I think. But don't forget they are still not overly in love with the Brits, remember......... In 1814 we took a little trip along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip. We took a little bacon and we took a little beans And we caught the bloody British in the town of New Orleans. We fired our guns and the British kept a'comin. There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago. We fired once more and they began to runnin' on down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico. A hit in England for Donegan and a hit in America for a guy called Driftwood, sais it all really. :) Still, I'm not biased (much?) so good luck to you and yours in your new American future life. TheBryster - Think you may have grabbed the wrong end of the stick, I'm so English I've only been out of the country twice and one of those times was a trip to the Isle of Wight! A certain young pro golfer named Casey recently said what he thought about Americans and promptly dug himself a hole which he can't now get out of. So if you think I'm going to say I don't like Americans........... Asta la vista

pakled ( ) posted Fri, 18 February 2005 at 10:27 AM

well, I was close, at least I got Anachreon right..;) serves me right for trusting my memory..;) welcome..now if you ever go back to the 'owd sod', and you miss American things, you'll have 'gone native'..;)

Yeah, Thanks Tresamie for making the corrections, I was tempted but decided not to. Speaking of being stupid ... what was Casey thinking making such generalizations? Serves him right being the snub that he is and he wouldnt be missed if he decided to move back to England, I can assure you of that. Id say, dont let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. Sorry, I couldn't pass this one up! :D

LOL...Some clarification may be in order; English golfer Paul Casey made the statement, which he is now trying to cleanup after: "Americans are stupid". Thus my comments: Speaking of being stupid Sometimes I wish I lived on Mars also. ;)
