Subject: Poser 6 pre-order price drop....

Has anyone noticed that CL has a special sale good until the 22nd on Poser 6 Special Edition pre-order. They reduced the price from $129 (which I think was very fair and I was going to order it in a while) to $109.65 because of "technical difficulties" people have been having. I will now definately order it before Tuesday.

(20 bucks is 20 bucks...)

Edited to add... That's for the P5 to P6 Upgrade. The price for the P4/Artist/PP upgrade also dropped from $149 to $126.65. I don't know if there's also a price drop on the full version or that special $89 deal for the early P5 customers Message edited on: 02/19/2005 13:03

They sent me an e-mail saying everyone who orders before Feb. 22 will get 15% off their order. DigitalRiver is offering the discount, as compensation for the serial number headaches. If you've already ordered, the discount will be automatically applied when your card is charged.

nakamuram ( ) posted Sat, 19 February 2005 at 1:35 PM

I ordered the upgrade this morning. My price was $75.65. Plus I get Shade LE NOW!!!

Peggy_Walters ( ) posted Sat, 19 February 2005 at 1:58 PM

Thanks CL! I did have problems, but it was due to my errors typing an 1 as I. I am looking forward to the new version. It is nice that you are not charging my card until is ships. That was the icing in the cake. The news that I will get another 15% off has worked! I feel loved!!!

All nice and well, and great good will. However, I'd like to receive the special offer coupon before the end of this deal :)

nakamuram, you were able to get Shade now? Did you order the d/l or boxed version? I preordered the boxed version but didn't get an option to get Shade right now.

aeilkema ( ) posted Sat, 19 February 2005 at 4:01 PM

Did get the email too, but I'm not even sure about ordering Poser 6 at all. There are hardly any features known. The ones shown until now don't excite me at all, I will never use them, I don't use Poser as my rendering engine at all and never will. Only use it to pose and bring those figures into Vue 5. So how will I know that the coming features will be for me and not all rendering related? How can a company expect anyone to pre-order if he/she doesn't know what he/she's ordering at all? Can I cancel my order in the end if I don't like Poser 6 after all of the info is out?

Artwork and 3DToons items, create the perfect place for you toon and other figures!

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

This is the part of this email that bothers me:

We have worked diligently with our e-commerce provider to identify and resolve this issue and are happy to report that the problem has been fixed.

Well, I just tried again, for like the eighth time, to enter my valid Poser 5 serial number. Sorry, invalid serial number. Well, sh!!!t, I'm reading it right off of the CD folder that came with my "Early Adopter" boxed version of Poser 5. That's not fixed!

Will they send me Poser 6 free if I continue to be unable to pre-order and receive my "Early Adopter" discount before product release?

Robert

Just out of interest how many people are taking the bait this time around? I'm not, dont come here much anymore and poser hasn't been installed since the last crash, around a year ago. I'm asking because I got the same email about "dilgently working" etc. Didn't even know there was a poser6 until that point, I guess it was the spamhaus block that was keeping Curious Labs email out of my inbox ;) later jb

nakamuram ( ) posted Sat, 19 February 2005 at 5:28 PM

I ordered the download. I suppose that's why I got Shade right away. I had trouble with the serial number. I cleared my browser's history and temporary files and closed my browser. When I went back to order, I entered my serial number with the dashes and was able to purchase the upgrade.

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Sat, 19 February 2005 at 5:34 PM

nakamuram, tried that. Cleared history, temp files, cookies, set IE settings to "please popup/spam/inviriate" me. Nada. Am I the only user with Poser 4/PP/5 for both Windows AND MacOS that can't order? ;)

I pre-ordered Poser 5 back in 2002. I have changed my email address since then, and did not get the special discount coupon. I IM'ed Katherine two days ago, and she told me she would take care of the problem, and make sure that I get the coupon.

However, after seeing the notice here today about the 15% off, making the normal update $109.XX, I just went ahead and ordered. I feel that less than $120 delivered for Poser 6 is a great deal! I have had more fun with Poser 4 and Poser 5 than with any other software that I use.

What can I say? You don't get much anymore for $120. I paid three times that for World Builder, and I never use it! It stinks compared to Poser (even Poser 5), and Vue 4.2. I will never complain about Curious Labs after dealing with Digital Element. At least Curious Labs releases fixes for free. When DE finally fixed World Builder, they upped the version from 3.22 to 3.5, and wanted another $150. Funny thing is, I never heard many complain about that!

This may be dumb advise but are you sure you typed the serial number correct. CL does NOT use the letter 'O' in their serial numbers, those are the number zero (0) and be carefull with the letter 'I' and the number '1', make sure you get those right.

Kristta ( ) posted Sat, 19 February 2005 at 6:11 PM

I pre-ordered on the 17th and all went perfectly. Now, they send me an email telling me I will get 15% off anyway! Now I'm a happy little camper and can't wait to get the program. Kristta

quslaw - As a computer programmer and user of 25 years, I think I can tell the difference between a 'O' and a '0' (especially when they show it properly with a diagonal line through it)! ;)

Yes, I am entering the SN EXACTLY and PROPERLY. I have compared the SN on the CD Folder, Poser 5 About, and the one I store in my registations (for SN, passwords, challenge codes, etc.). There is no difference. Ten times I've tried - even tried my Poser 4 and PP numbers just for the heck of it - nothing. Tried the P5 SN with and without dashes, upper and lower case, and while singing "You're So Vain", standing on my head, and having my foot feather-tickled. Still no luck!

How much you want to bet that I can use my Poser 5 MacOSX SN (but no "Early Adopter" for that) and get an "A-OK!"? But I don't want that. My main workhorse system is a Windows machine (dual Xeons, 4GB, 1/2TB storage). The Mac is an eMac.

I've IM'd Katherine as instructed in a previous thread, but have not had any response yet.

What Gus said. Also, P5 serial numbers are not case-sensitive, but you do have to put the dashes in. I'm very happy with the upgrade pricing. With the new discount, it's less than $70 for me. Can't complain about that.

guslaw ( ) posted Sat, 19 February 2005 at 6:50 PM

kuroyume0161, I can understand your frustration but I don't think you'll have much luck with a reply from CL for a couple of days maybe. It is the weekend and for many, a long holyday weekend at that. I did start out by saying that it may be dumb advise, but for others not as experienced it might not be... btw - did you try whistling while standing on one foot, it helped me once. (...sorry, just kidding)

You people who are having problems -- When did you last try to order? I ordered this morning -- Right after I read about the price drop and Curious Labs' apology regarding the serial number problem. Try again, things appear to have been fixed.

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Sun, 20 February 2005 at 12:27 AM · edited Sun, 20 February 2005 at 12:31 AM

I first attempted to order on Thursday night several times. Attempted Friday afternoon several times. Tried today, at two different times. No luck.

Yes, I waited at least 10 minutes between attempts. I cleared my browser's history and cookies. Cleared my Temp folder. Also have tried IE 6.0, Mozilla, and Firefox. No luck.

BTW, I'm in the US.

I think they just don't like me. ;)

And, obviously, Katherine is swamped with emails and IMs, so I don't expect a speedy reply. But I will not tolerate any deadlines passing and then getting a bum deal because of this.

ETA: I have now memorized my entire Poser 5 SN! :) Also, anyone having difficulties have the 'UPDn' at the end of the SN? This appears to obviously mean 'Update', which is what my P5 was.

Robert

I am still having the same problem, it is still saying serial number invalid :( This is becoming a farce. I VERY carefully entered my serial, it is not a fault at my end. I am in the UK

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Sun, 20 February 2005 at 2:20 AM

Yes, same here Andy. I spend 10-20 hours a DAY, SEVEN days a WEEK, programming in C++. I can type at a clip, even this non-English semantics. So, I am quite sure of having entered my SN correctly at least eighteen of the twenty times (if not twenty). My conclusion: Incomplete Database correlation between CL and DR. I purchased Shade Std without any frustration at the time it was being offered for Poser users. Why the difficulties all of a sudden otherwise? There is obviously not a complete user database being validated here. The best that I (and you) can do is wait for a response, wait for a verification that they have confirmed the validity of their database records against registered users (other than the earlier one which was not factual). If this keeps up, I may have to order through Kazaa. (And I'm being totally fecitious, so don't fret) Robert

Ummm -blush- I erm... Sorry CL, my mistake, it is working fine :) In spite of carefully entering the serial, I managed to click on 'upgrade from poser 4' instead of 'upgrade from Poser 5'. I blame my mouse personally, and too much grog last night, oh and the sun is reflecting off the screen, and the kids keep distracting me and... Okay, it was sheer stupidity on my part, I admit it! :)

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Sun, 20 February 2005 at 3:48 AM

I wish that I could say the same. Positive of the 'upgrade from Poser 5' despite their moving it around on the 'Buy It' page. ;)

Kingfisher ( ) posted Sun, 20 February 2005 at 4:07 AM

I had the same problem with my serial number not being accepted.
I have now retried after having received the email from Curious Labs re price drop & problem fixed.
The order has been processed ok. No problem now with the serial number and it was exactly the same number as I tried before.

randym77 ( ) posted Sun, 20 February 2005 at 6:36 AM

Do not bother trying to order with Firefox. Doesn't work.

I love Firefox. The only problems I ever have with it are in Web stores. A lot of them just don't play nicely with Firefox.

There's no UPDn at the end of my P5 serial number. Mine was an upgrade from PP.

Anyone who's still having trouble should probably just IM Katherine on Tuesday. There are always a few that don't go through for one reason or another. I couldn't use my P5 serial to order Shade. I ended up using the P4 or PP one, I believe. Kept telling me "not a valid serial number." Funny, it worked fine to order P6.

Then there was that guy who posted here, because CL kept telling him his serial was pirated. It wasn't, and he had mega-protection on his computer, so it was unlikely to have been stolen. But CL kept telling him that his serial had been used more than 10 times, so they weren't going to honor it. :-P

I wonder if they fixed it?

I wasn't able to put in my order with Firefox four days ago. The "checkout" button was invisible. I've had that problem with Yahoo web stores, too. Most of the page looks great. Other buttons, like "remove" and "recalculate" work fine. But there's no "checkout" button. When I switch to IE, and the checkout button suddenly appears.

Marque ( ) posted Sun, 20 February 2005 at 9:30 AM

Weird, I pre-ordered 5 and they sent me the email so I pre-ordered 6, but they have already charged my card and I did not get the extra 15% they promised in the email I just got. Will be calling them Tuesday to find out why. Marque

hauksdottir ( ) posted Mon, 21 February 2005 at 2:26 AM

The email I got yesterday assured us that anybody who couldn't get through by the deadline because of technical difficulties would get the discount. Katherine will work with people, but I suspect that she is a bit swamped so it will take time... (186 IMs at 10 minutes each (my guesstimate) = 31 hours, and more pouring in?) Carolly

Arien ( ) posted Mon, 21 February 2005 at 2:34 AM

Carolly: you got much better information on that than I did. I'm currently waiting for my initial early-adopter discount to arrive, and have written to her asking exactly what would happen. Worse comes to worst, I can always make the order tuesday, and see if the extra coupon can be applied retroactively on it.

I wonder if there is a difference between using a debit card and a credit card?

guslaw ( ) posted Mon, 21 February 2005 at 8:30 AM

hauksdottir, There shoulnd't be if your bank debit card is issued through a major CC card company like Visa or Master Card. My debit card is with a bank in New York but it's issued through Master Card and I use it as either a debit or CC. The only difference is that the charge is deducted from my checking account immediately and I'm not faced with exorbitant CC interest charges...
