Subject: I need to know What does P6 really DO?

starlight64 ( ) posted Sun, 20 February 2005 at 2:19 PM · edited Fri, 20 December 2024 at 8:18 AM

Hi all, Several of my friends have did the pre-order thing w/ P6 but I am unsure. There are several issues that I really need to know that will be fixed before I buy it. 1. First and formost.... Rendering! It does wierd things to the skin if you use texture filtering in Firefly. But if you don't use TF hair, lashes, ect... look like crap. Unless of course you tweak the heck out of the shader nodes! Which brings me to my next issue... 2. Materials Room.... It can do great things but is way too complicated and UN user friendly for most people! It needs to have some easier options.. Ways to apply initial maps to all of the figure. Ways to apply effects to all of a figure. Going in and setting individual nodes on every single thing is just too tedious for the average user! And will the bump maps load to the bump node and not the stupid Gradient bump? lol. Right now I have P4 and P5 installed on my puter. I would hate to think that I would have to have all 3 installed to get use out of it. thanks, star

The only people that can tell us about P6 right now are those who work for Curious Labs, so I guess we'll just have to be patient until they are able to release all of the info. I ordered mine though 8-)

Yeah, but the beta testers probably had to sign ND agreements until CL gives them permission to reveal specific features...

Edited to add: I ordered mine too, none of the famous problems a lot of folks seem to experiencing, but them I'm right here in the U.S. No issues, took my SN and all went well right from the first try. (btw - I'm using Firefox) Message edited on: 02/20/2005 14:57

I would jump on the pre-order in a New York minute if I had product information that told me a bit more about the new features (other than the lighting and OpenGL)so I can determine how they benefit me. Are the CL folks going to tell us more before the offer expires? Visque

If you love speculation, the link above gives hints about the next features that will be revealed: *- Secret #3 Improved Toon rendering (upcoming) - Secret #4 NEW Subsurface scattering of light simulation (upcoming)*

Considering the silence on anything other than the officially released bits, I bet they NDA'd the office cat!

They shouldnt keep people in suspense about the poser 6 features when they are asking people to preorder the program. I wouldnt go into a shop and buy something if I didn`t know what it does.

Hauksdottir, you can expect a CL laywer to be contacting you soon, wanting to know who disclosed there was an office cat :) Xantor. (IMO) they're not asking you to buy it. They are offering to sell it to you. if you dont want to buy it without full disclosure, then you can wait and pay the full price. Its nothing personel it's just marketing. besides, technicaly, nobody had bought it yet. CL is not charging your account until it ships.

I would have thought asking you to buy something and offering to sell it are much the same thing. I didn`t mean asking you to buy like "hey xantor buy this" I meant having the thing on offer for people to buy.

I agree. Asking to buy and offering to sell is pretty much the same thing. If I pre-order, they get my money(discounted or not). But If I get the product and it doesn't do what I need it to, I am pretty much screwed. IMO. It would be like if someone said be the first to buy this new soap and get it for 90% off! Then I get 20 cases of it and find out I am allergic! Well, then the soap would be 100% worthless to me and even though I paid 10% of the normal price I would be pretty much 100% screwed! lol! I don't care if it is 90% off, if it isn't of use, I don't want or need it. Ya know? And as far as the charging not being done till the product releases... Well, it says you have 96 hrs to cancel the pre-order. How can they say that if there not spose to charge you till March or April? Rhonda
